Proton has unveiled a special edition model based on the X50 SUV at KLIMS 2024, known as the Proton X50 Sport Edition.
Also making its first public debut at the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024) is yet another special model by Proton, this time based on the X50 B-segment crossover. Christened as the Proton X50 Sport Edition, this limited-unit, dressed-up version of the X50 gains some sporty design touches, with sales slated to commence sometime later in 2025.
The sportiness comes from the exclusive Sport Edition bodykit this model comes dressed in, which comprises a red-hued front splitter, side skirts, and a faux rear diffuser. Said bodykit is complemented by a slew of red-hued decals and accents on the side, while a special Sport Edition badge helps people to differentiate this limited edition model from other normal X50s out there. Not to forget, the X50 Sport Edition also rides on special 18-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black to match the car’s overall exterior hue.
The Sport Edition treatment continues as we get inside this special X50, as it is now dressed with special Sport Edition scuff plates on the door sills, as well as Sport Edition-badged floor mats with contrasting red piping. To match these, all the seats are also wrapped in special red-and-black leather upholstery.
According to a Proton spokesperson, this limited-unit X50 Sport Edition is based on the 1.5T Premium variant of the newly-updated 2024 Proton X50 RC, where it gets the 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbocharged MPi engine rated at 150 PS and 226 NM instead of the TGDi unit used on the Flagship variant. This also means that the X50 Sport Edition won’t be getting Flagship-specific features such as the panoramic sunroof and a host of ADAS functions.
As of now, Proton has yet to unveil the pricing details for this new X50 Sport Edition, although the automaker did mention that production will be limited. Set to arrive later in early 2025, we can expect the special Proton X50 Sport Edition to be priced slightly higher than the X50 Premium it underpins, with said variant currently retailing at RM101,800.
