RON95 Subsidy: T15 Classification Set for Q1 2025 Announcement
The Central Database System (PADU) will play a vital role along with other databases in determining the T15 classification to identify individuals who will qualify for the RON95 petrol targeted subsidies. Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli announced that the classification will be unveiled in the first quarter of 2025.
The T15 classification, which would represent the top 15% income earners in the country, will be assessed based on net disposable income and will be locality-specific Basic Expenses for Decent Living (PAKW).
Rafizi further detailed that around 10 million households may qualify, however firm details based on PADU evaluation are still underway.
Rafizi had previously explained that living standards and expenses vary significantly by area, hence a blanket definition of T15 for the whole country is unjust. He went on to say, "For example, someone earning RM15,000 in Kuala Lumpur may not be considered as wealthy as someone earning RM15,000 in Gua Musang."
The Economy Ministry will oversee eligibility evaluations, while the Finance Ministry will coordinate subsidy execution.
According to Rafizi, people who were excluded from the initial subsidy categorisation will be able to appeal or register if they are currently unregistered.
Based on the 2025 budget, RON95 subsidies of RM8 billion would be cut for the T15 group, while 85% of the population will continue to pay the subsidised RM2.05 per litre.
