New MG Cyberster Red Top Edition Is A Modern-Day Homage to the MGA

The new MG Cyberster Red Top Edition arrives in China as a modern-day homage to the iconic MGA roadster.
Sino-British EV marque MG Motor is paying homage to its Albion roots by launching a special edition of its EV roadster, known as the MG Cyberster Red Top Edition. This special Cyberster features design cues inspired by one of MG’s most iconic models, the MGA roadster.
As its name suggests, the Cyberster Red Top Edition comes draped in the same pearl white body colour, contrasted by its red-hued soft-top convertible roof – the same colour combination used on the original MGA roadster. The red element continues as we get inside the Cyberster Red Top Edition, featuring matching red-hued upholstery for the seats, steering wheel, and all the main cabin panels.
Unfortunately, the MGA homage stops there, as this special Cyberster still boasts similar specs to its normal twin. Available in both single- and dual-motor options. For the former, the Cyberster gets a rear-mounted (RWD) motor setup rated at 310 HP, with its juices derived from either a 64-kWh or a bigger 77-kWh battery unit for a maximum EV range of 501 KM and 580 KM, respectively.
Meanwhile, the top-specced, dual-motor AWD model boasts a higher total system output of 536 HP, allowing a very quick century sprint finish in only 3.2 seconds. Despite using the same 77-kWh pack as the RWD model, the AWD version’s EV range has been reduced to 520 KM instead.
With its deliveries set to commence later in March this year, the special MG Cyberster Red Top Edition is exclusively available for the Chinese market only, priced between CNY 319,900 and CNY 359,800 (RM213,096 to RM239,675). With MG only planning to build 100 examples of this special model as an homage to the marque’s 100th anniversary this year, we can expect those prices to skyrocket in the coming years.
Closer to home, the MG Cyberster is set to make its Malaysian debut any time soon!
Closer to home, we’ve previously reported that MG has already set up its Malaysian official website and social media pages, indicating that the brand’s entry into our local market is very imminent. Its Malaysian arm is reportedly planning to bring at least four models into our market, including the Cyberster.
