Mazda Motor Co. (Mazda) is taking a significant step into the electrification era with plans to construct a cutting-edge battery module plant in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi, Japan.
This facility will produce advanced battery modules and packs using cylindrical lithium-ion cells supplied by Panasonic Energy Co. It also marks a milestone in Mazda's partnership with Panasonic, first announced in May 2023.
As part of the collaboration, Panasonic will enhance its battery production capabilities and develop advanced technologies to ensure a stable supply of automotive-grade EV batteries.

Mazda's first battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be built on a dedicated EV platform at its Japanese manufacturing plant. The vehicle promises exceptional design, convenience, and driving range, reflecting Mazda's commitment to delivering premium EV experiences.
The Iwakuni facility will boast an annual production capacity of 10 GWh, aligning with Mazda’s “2030 Management Policy” which embraces a multi-solution approach to address global warming.

This project is also expected to drive local economic growth and create employment opportunities, reinforcing Mazda's role as a contributor to the regional economy.
