The Kelantan <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/04/kelantan-jpj-denies-long-wait-times-allegations" target="_blank" style="">Road Transport Department (JPJ) is ramping up checks on Thai private vans</a>, commonly known as roktu, which are expected to flood into Malaysia during the school holidays.
State JPJ director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said the focus will be on vehicles misusing<a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2022/07/kelantan-jpj-collects-rm204m-for-del-vehicle-registration-numbers" target="_blank"> International Circulation Permits (ICP)</a>, including private vans carrying passengers for tourism without proper licences.“Peak season is during school holidays, especially festive periods. In one past operation, we detained 23 roktu in just a single day and issued summonses for various offences,” he said.

Investigations showed many of the vehicles were not operated by registered companies but by private owners. “Sometimes, the passengers even claim to be relatives to avoid action,” Misuari added.He said JPJ will intensify enforcement and work closely with the Kelantan branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) to address the problem.Besides regular roadblocks at the Rantau Panjang ICQS, enforcement teams are also monitoring Bukit Bunga ICQS in Tanah Merah, which has become another popular route for these vans.

The Proton e.MAS 7 continues to dominate Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/08/proton-emas-7-leads-july-2025-ev-sales-686-units-delivered" target="_blank" style="">holding the top spot for the eighth straight month, buoyed by strong sales in Aug 2025 too.</a>

Said plant, located in the Automotive High Technology Valley, has an initial capacity of 20,000 vehicles a year, with room to scale up to 45,000.  Proton adds this will help grow Malaysia’s EV supply chain, create skilled jobs and make EVs more accessible. 
Moreover, the move also supports the government’s vision to position Tanjung Malim as the country’s EV hub, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim pushing for a competitively priced Proton EV ahead of the ASEAN Summit in Oct.

Come April 1, 2027, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2024/08/abs-mandatory-for-motorcycles-150cc-and-up-starting-2025" target="_blank" style="">all new motorcycles registered in Singapore must come fitted with anti-lock braking systems (ABS). </a>
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) says this follows months of industry discussions aimed at improving rider safety. Around half of Singapore’s motorcycles already have ABS as of late 2024, but this rule ensures every new bike will have it, CNA has reported.“The industry has about 18 months to clear existing stocks and bring in ABS-equipped models,” said LTA, adding that Singapore will be the first ASEAN nation to make ABS compulsory for all new motorcycles.The move comes amid rising concern over road safety. Fatal accidents involving motorcyclists jumped more than 20% in 2024.

A World Health Organization report shows ABS-equipped motorcycles have 37% fewer fatal crashes, strengthening the case for the rule.Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor had previously said that LTA was carefully weighing costs, reliability, and rider readiness before introducing the mandate.Malaysia is ahead on this front. Starting January 1, 2025, all motorcycles above 150cc sold in the country must have ABS.

The Gua Musang–Lojing road at Kilometre 78 near Kampung Jekjok, Pos Brooke, is now fully closed to all traffic after a fifth sinkhole in less than a year appeared along the stretch.
The <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/04/jkr-fixed-31180sq-m-of-potholes-in-kelantan" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Public Works Department (JKR)</a> said the closure takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and plan their journeys carefully. The recommended detour is from Gua Musang to Sungai Koyan via Ringlet, Tapah and Ipoh,” JKR said.

The road has been plagued by <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/04/kelantan-set-to-receive-8-electric-buses-worth-rm112mil" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">repeated sinkholes</a> since November last year, when the first one was detected and forced a full shutdown. A second, nine-metre-deep sinkhole appeared on 12 December just metres away from the first.Another collapse followed on 15 March, but the road was partially reopened to light vehicles later that month to ease traffic during Aidilfitri.

The latest incident, which happened on 12 September, has now made the stretch too dangerous to keep open, prompting JKR to order a full closure once again.

“The low-altitude economy is a new field that we need to pioneer because it is very relevant to our economic development and aligns with the government’s mission and vision“If we over-regulate too much, it will be difficult for any industry player to enter the market,” he told Bernama, stressing that regulations will be kept practical.

The minister said the agency will review outdated rules and streamline processes to cut bureaucracy and attract more players into Malaysia’s aviation space.CAAM’s revamp follows its merger with the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) in August, giving it wider powers over economic regulation and consumer protection.Loke called on industry players to work closely with CAAM to help position Malaysia as Southeast Asia’s top aviation and aerospace hub ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.
