BYD Atto 2 Makes Official Debut In Europe – ASEAN Next?

The subcompact BYD Atto 2 has made its European debut, featuring two variants with up to 312 KM of WLTP range.
Almost a year since its inception in China, the BYD Yuan Up has finally made its official landfall in the European market, now known as the BYD Atto 2. In the Old Continent, this subcompact EV crossover is offered in two trim levels, while underpinning the same e-Platform 3.0 as its larger sibling, the BYD Atto 3.

In terms of design, the EU-spec Atto 2 does not look too different from its Chinese twin, albeit featuring some minor styling changes. For starters, the Atto 2 gets a refreshed ‘Dragon Face’ design language, featuring slimmer LED headlights, the same grill-less front bumper, and a more prominent lower air intake.
Some slight changes can also be seen at the rear, as the Atto 2 adopts redesigned LED taillights that feature a ‘Chinese knot’ pattern with full-width LED light bar. No changes in its overall dimensions, as the Atto 2 still measures 4,310 MM long, 1,830 MM wide, 1,675 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,620 MM, just like the Yuan Up.

On board, the Atto 2 gets a pretty decent cabin space with tons of amenities. Some key highlights primed in the top-flight Boost variant include BYD’s signature 12.8-inch rotating infotainment display with a surround-view monitor, a smaller 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster, an 8-speaker sound system, powered and heated front seats wrapped in eco-friendly vegan leather upholstery, and a large panoramic sunroof.
Opting for the low-specced variant will grant users a smaller 10.1-inch infotainment screen, six speakers, standard non-heated front seats, and a rear-view camera system.

Despite its small stature, the Atto 2 boasts a pretty decent space for rear occupants, while its standard boot space is measured at 400 litres, which can be further expanded to 1,340 litres with the rear seats folded.

Unlike its Chinese counterpart, the EU-spec Atto 2 is only offered with one powertrain flavour, featuring a 45.12-kWh LFP ‘Blade’ battery pack that provides up to 312 KM of WLTP range. Said battery pack supports both AC 11 kW and DC 65 kW charging, with the latter enabling a 10-80% charge to be completed in 37 minutes.
Powering the Atto 2 is a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor rated at 174 HP (130 kW) and 290 NM, allowing this subcompact EV crossover to accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in 7.9 seconds, en route to its limited V-max of 160 KM/H.

As of now, BYD has yet to unveil the price list for the Europe-bound Atto 2, but we can expect it to be cheaper than its big brother, the BYD Atto 3, which currently retails at €37,990 (RM175,000 approx.) in said market.
With the European market already confirmed for the Atto 2, we can expect this subcompact EV crossover to hit our ASEAN regional market sooner or later, possibly retaining the Atto 2 nomenclature to go along with the Atto 3. Besides the Atto 2, the Yuan Up is also known as the Yuan Pro in some markets in South America.
