Huawei’s new XHUD-AR augmented reality HUD promises to bring a game-changing experience for drivers.
The automotive head-up display (HUD) has gotten more serious in recent years, with numerous automakers fielding out their latest innovations left and right. Besides BMW and Hyundai, Chinese tech giant Huawei has also unveiled its latest augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) tech this year, where it promises to be a game-changer in this burgeoning industry.
Known as the XHUD-AR, this new tech is basically a continuation of Huawei’s first AR-HUD unveiled back during the 2021 IAA Mobility show in Munich, Germany, featuring an expansive 70-inch display for the drivers. For this latest version, the XHUD-AR supports multi-dimensional coordinate conversion and real-scene fitting.
The main improvement of Huawei’s XHUD-AR is the real-time rendering, target tracking, and anti-shake algorithm capabilities. The new system also fuses virtual and real space for better user experience, which resulted in the AR real-time navigation markers always pointing to the target direction in the real world.
Additionally, the XHUD-AR system also filters up to 95% of AR icon offsets caused by uneven roads and bumps, thanks to the implemented trajectory prediction algorithm. As a result, the displayed picture remains smooth and stable. On top of that, the new AR-HUD system can also adapt to night driving scenes better, provide warnings of vehicles in blind spots, mark pedestrians around the car, and provide prompts for obstacles and merging, deceleration, and braking vehicles.
All in all, Huawei promises the adoption of its brand-new XHUD-AR will further enhance the comfort and safety of these vehicles while further boosting the ADAS capabilities of a vehicle equipped with it.
As of now, Huawei has confirmed its new XHUD-AR technology will be making its way into several new Chinese vehicles from brands such as Chery, Changan, BYD, SAIC Motor, JAC, and BAIC, to name a few. Given the extensive list of automakers it supplied to, the new XHUD-AR will also help Huawei to secure its position as the top-tier head-up display supplier.
