To enhance transparency and accountability within its enforcement efforts, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be providing its enforcement officers with body-worn cameras. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that 100 units will be rolled out initially.

In a written response to a query from Sabri Azit (PN-Jerai) on Friday (February 21), Loke stressed that the use of body-worn cameras by enforcement officers not only strengthens their integrity but also protects them from threats, misinterpretations, and baseless accusations, as the recordings can be used as reference.

"The use of these body-worn cameras also plays a role in strengthening the integrity and accountability of enforcement officers while carrying out enforcement duties," he said.

The Road Transport Department's (JPJ) decision to utilize body cameras follows the Royal Malaysia Police's (PDRM) prior implementation. The police anticipate deploying all 7,648 body cameras nationwide by March 2025.

The minister explained that the department had conducted various tests to assess the body-worn camera equipment's use and performance from technical, system, and operational perspectives.

He also mentioned that a second phase to expand their use will be implemented next year, subject to funding approval from the Ministry of Finance.
