The Melaka state road transport department (JPJ) will step up enforcement against heavy vehicle overloading, as it has been identified as one of the most common offences that can endanger the safety of other road users and contribute to fatal accidents, according to Bernama.
Melaka JPJ director Muhammad Firdaus Shariff says the department would conduct special operations in places known to be heavy vehicle hotspots, as well as specific campaigns to raise awareness about the infringement.
The Melaka JPJ conducted a Chinese New Year special operation on the Alor Gajah-Jasin Highway near Melaka Sentral, inspecting 2,419 vehicles and taking action against 267 for various violations. 223 notices were issued, and the department seized six motorcycles.
The most common violation discovered during the operation was driving without a licence (94 offences), followed by not having valid road tax and insurance (88 offences), and technical violations such as non-compliance with vehicle licence plate specifications and issues with side mirrors (85 offences), Firdaus stated.
