Exco Urges Air Asia To Reconsider Ipoh-Singapore Flight Suspension

The Perak government has formally requested that AirAsia reconsider its decision to discontinue flights between Ipoh and Singapore, which are currently scheduled to cease operations on April 25th.
This move has sparked concern and disappointment within the Perak state government, as they were not informed or consulted prior to AirAsia's announcement.
Assemblyman Loh Sze Yee has expressed his discontent, highlighting the lack of communication from AirAsia regarding this decision. Furthermore, Loh, along with other Perak state officials, argue that the Ipoh-Singapore route has consistently demonstrated strong demand and plays a crucial role in the region's connectivity and economic activity.
“The Ipoh-Singapore route has received good response so far, and its suspension could impact tourism, investment, and industry in Perak,” he said in a statement.
Loh also highlighted that the move contradicts the government's efforts to enhance Ipoh's air connectivity, particularly with the ongoing renovations at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) aimed at optimizing airline services.
“I hope that AirAsia will consider resuming operations of the route.
“I also hope that this is only a temporary measure as part of the company’s strategy realignment for new destinations,” he added.
AirAsia has announced the suspension of its Ipoh-Singapore route, among approximately 17 other routes, as indicated on their website. The low-cost carrier aims to enhance and align its operations through this suspension. Since its launch in December 2018, the Ipoh-Singapore route has been a key connection for travelers between the two cities.
