MAS Sets New Rules For Taking Power Banks Onboard

Batik Air has recently introduced new restrictions on the use and carriage of power banks on its flights, and it seems that Malaysia Airlines is following suit. The national carrier has announced that it will be implementing new regulations regarding the carriage of power banks on board its aircraft, effective from April 1, 2025. Passengers traveling on Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, or MASwings are required to keep their power banks with them at all times during the flight. Power banks must be stored in carry-on luggage beneath the seat or in the seat pocket in front, and are not allowed in overhead bins.

The national airline regulations also mandate that power banks and extra lithium-ion batteries are prohibited in checked luggage and cannot be used or charged during flights. To prevent accidental activation, magnetic wireless charging power banks should be stored in a protective pouch or separate bag. Untitled-design---2025-03-24T071639.169.png

Malaysia Airlines has stated that the reasoning behind these restrictions is to enhance overall flight safety as it aims to maintain a controlled and safe environment onboard their aircraft.
