It is no secret that Volvo is planning to launch its first-ever flagship EV saloon, cordially named the Volvo ES90. Ahead of its planned debut later on March 5, however, a single image of the ES90 has surfaced online, giving us a glimpse into this upcoming flagship EV saloon.

Published by Instagram user @wilcoblock, the single leaked image showcases the front quarter angle of the ES90, where all the design cues matched with the teaser images published by Volvo prior. Key design highlights include the signature Thor’s hammer LED headlights that look similar to ones on the EX90 SUV, a sleek roofline, and flushed door handles with sharp shoulder lines—all packaged in a classic three-box sedan bodystyle.

What’s also interesting about this apparent ES90 sedan is the presence of a roof-mounted LiDAR at the front, so we can expect similar cutting-edge advanced driving capabilities primed in this flagship EV saloon.

Prior to this, Volvo has already published a series of teaser images for the ES90, where it showcases the rear-end design of this flagship saloon. Although most of the photos are draped in shadows, some key design cues can be seen, including the C-shaped LED taillights with vertical LED strips on the C-pillars, the rakish, fastback-style rear windscreen, and the charging port location at the rear left fender.

Also unveiled by the Swedish automaker are some juicy bits regarding the ES90’s specs. We’ve been told that the ES90 will underpin the same SPA2 platform as the EX90, featuring an 800-volt battery architecture that grants it lightning-fast charging speeds of up to 350 kW. Volvo claims a 10-minute charge is enough to grant the ES90 with up to 300 KM of travel range, while its maximum EV range is capped at over 700 KM (WLTP), although no exact numbers were given on the actual battery capacity.

Besides its bodystyles, what also separates the ES90 from the EX90 is the integration of a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chipset setup, thus making the saloon the first-ever Volvo model to get this intricate chipset setup.

The system supports AI-based active safety features and sensors, contributing to Volvo’s “Safe Space Technology“. As indicated earlier, the ES90 will be equipped with one LiDAR, five radars, eight cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and an “advanced driver understanding system inside the car.”

We can expect to learn all the things about the new Volvo ES90, including its innards, once this flagship EV saloon makes its global debut later on March 5. The ES90 will be the first among the five models Volvo planned to launch this year, with the list including the likes of the upcoming EX60 EV SUV, a heavily-upgraded S90 saloon, and many more.
