BYD e7 Unveiled in China as Brand’s New Entry-Level EV Sedan
BYD’s new affordable EV sedan will be made into taxis in China, featuring a 134 HP-rated e-motor and 520 KM of CLTC range.
Chinese automaker BYD has released the official images of its new entry-level EV sedan, the BYD e7. Part of the brand’s affordable e-Series model lineup, the e7 aims towards taxi services in China, thanks to its decent space and relatively affordable pricing.
On the visual front, the e7 looks somewhat similar to the Seal EV saloon, albeit featuring a slightly higher stance while retaining the fastback-style roofline. Adopting the same Marine Aesthetics design language as other newer BYD models, the e7 gets a pretty clean front face with wide LED headlights, a grill-less front bumper with lower side vents, and a BYD emblem up its nose.
Unlike the Seal, however, some cost-cutting measures can be seen in this all-electric econobox, including the traditional door handles instead of the auto-retractable ones. The same can be said for its small 16-inch wheels that open up a pretty sizable gap between the tyres and the wheel arches, while its taillights are split instead of rocking the through-type units primed on its more premium siblings.
Dimension-wise, the e7 is quite a sizable EV sedan, spanning 4,780 MM long, 1,900 MM wide, 1,515 MM tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,820 MM, thus putting it in the same midsize segment as the sleek Seal EV and the Tesla Model 3.
Given its sizable wheelbase, we can expect the e7 to boast a pretty spacious cabin space with a large cargo compartment, thus making it an ideal vehicle for taxi services. Unfortunately, no interior photos were released for now, but we can expect the cabin to be as ‘utilitarian’ as its MPV cousin, the BYD M6.
Also not revealed are the detailed powertrain specifications for the e7. CarNewsChina reports that the e7 will be exclusively powered by a single e-motor rated at 134 HP (100 kW) that is good for up to 150 KM/H of V-max, while juice is provided by an LFP-type battery pack. Again, not many details were shed on this matter, but we can already predict that the e7 will adopt BYD’s proprietary ‘Blade’ LFP battery pack that promises up to 520 KM of CLTC range.
Given its economical nature, the BYD e7 is slated to be one of the brand’s most affordable EV sedans yet. For reference, the now discontinued BYD e5 EV sedan previously retailed from CNY 147,500 (RM89,893) onwards, while the recently updated 2025 BYD Seal EV starts at CNY 175,800 (RM108,678).
