Launched: BYD Sealion 7 EV – 2 Variants, From RM183,800

The much-awaited BYD Sealion 7 has officially made its debut today, featuring two variants priced from RM183,800.
Following a lengthy teaser campaign and order commencement, BYD Malaysia has finally launched the much-awaited BYD Sealion 7. For the Malaysian market, this all-electric midsize coupe SUV comes in two variants, Premium and Performance, priced at RM183,800 and RM199,800, respectively.

Starting with the Sealion 7 Premium, this baseline variant gets a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup rated at 308 HP (230 kW) and 380 NM—good enough to blast this coupe SUV from 0-100 KM/H in 6.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the range-topping Sealion 7 Performance is powered by a peppier dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that delivers a total system output of 523 HP (390 kW) and 690 NM, which is good enough for a quicker century sprint time of only 4.5 seconds.
Regardless of variants, both the Malaysian-spec Sealion 7 are juiced by the same 82.5-kWh LFP-type ‘Blade’ battery pack that grants it a maximum EV range of 567 KM (NEDC) for the Premium RWD and 542 KM (NEDC) for the Performance AWD. Converting these figures to the stricter WLTP standard will see the max ranges dropped to 482 KM and 461 KM, respectively.

Underpinning the same BYD e-Platform 3.0 as both the Seal and Atto 3, the Malaysian-spec Sealion 7 gets a 400-volt battery architecture instead of an 800-volt one used on the European and Chinese models. As a result, the DCFC figure reads out at 150 kW, while AC charging is capped at only 11 kW for both variants.

Visually, the Sealion 7 is essentially a coupe SUV version of the BYD Seal saloon, featuring the same ‘Ocean Aesthetic) design language. Dimension-wise, the Sealion 7 measures 4,830 MM long, 1,925 MM wide, 1,620 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,930 MM, thus making it on-par with the likes of other midsize EV SUVs such as the Xpeng G6, Tesla Model Y, and Leapmotor C10.
Elsewhere, four colourways will be available for both variants of the Sealion 7, namely Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, and Shark Grey.

As the brand’s premium midsize EV SUV, it comes as no surprise that the Sealion 7 gets a pretty well-equipped cabin featuring tons of luxury and tech amenities. Key highlights include a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an expansive 50-inch AR head-up display (HUD), a full panoramic glass roof, a dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped sporty front seats, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, and many more.
On the safety front, standard safety equipment such as nine airbags, a 360-degree camera system, front and parking sensors, as well as an ISOFIX child seat anchor can all be found on the Sealion 7. Meanwhile, some ADAS functions primed here include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Departure Warning, and many more.

Priced at RM183,800 for the Premium RWD and RM199,800 for the Performance AWD, the all-new BYD Sealion 7 comes with a standard 6-year or 150,000 KM vehicle warranty, a separate 8-year or 160,000 KM warranty for the EV battery, and an 8-year or 150,000 KM warranty for the drive unit.

On top of that, BYD Malaysia is also offering a special early-bird promotion for customers who book the Sealion 7 before Nov 17, where they are entitled to a complimentary home charger and RM800 worth of charging credits. To qualify for this early-bird promo, customers must register their new Sealion 7 before Dec 31, 2024.
