Foxconn’s Foxtron Model B Will Be Rebadged as a Mitsubishi – Report
A new Mitsubishi EV to debut in Australia will reportedly be a rebadged version of Foxconn’s Foxtron Model B.
Mitsubishi is reportedly planning to launch a new all-electric model in Australia, but it won’t be a Mitsubishi EV you and I are familiar with. That is because this new EV will be a rebadge of a car built by Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn.
According to Automotive News, Foxconn is now preparing to build its Model B EV hatch under license for a "Japanese automaker to introduce in the first half of 2026." This was announced during a session between Foxconn and media representatives in Japan, where the tech firm has reportedly acknowledged it is working with Mitsubishi.
With the Nissan-Honda merger now being called off, Foxconn has emerged as the potential 'savior' to the sinking Nissan ship.
In the same session, Foxconn CEO Jun Seki, who is also a former Nissan employee, said that aside from the rebadged Mitsubishi EV project, the company still plans to partner with both Mitsubishi and its part-owner Nissan in the future. Given that the Nissan-Honda merger talk already disintegrated, it poses a bright chance for Foxconn to slip in and partner up with the struggling Japanese automaker.
As of now, Mitsubishi Australia has neither confirmed nor denied its partnership with Foxconn, with the company representative refusing to comment further when asked by Australian automotive news outlet CarExpert.
“Regarding the related articles, we refrain from making any comments. We will continue to explore collaboration opportunities with various partners to achieve sustainable growth,” the spokesperson told CarExpert.
Should this rumour be true, then the Mitsubishi rebadged version of the Foxtron Model B will face stiff competition against other affordable EVs in the Aussie market, such as the MG ZS and the Kia EV3. With that being said, there’s a chance that this EV model might be making its way to other key right-hand drive markets like Thailand, the UK, and even ours too.
Though not many details were confirmed, we can expect the Mitsubishi version of the Model B to get the same 60-kWh battery setup that enables the EV crossover hatch for up to 500 KM of NEDC range. Power is provided by either a single- or dual-motor powertrain setup, with the former rated at 230 HP (170 kW).

Besides Mitsubishi and the Model B, Foxconn is also looking to offer some of its Foxtron EVs to other car brands under license. Among the models enlisted for a rebadge are the Tesla Model Y-sized Model C, which is already on sale in Taiwan as the Luxgen n7, and the Model D, which is a large MPV with three rows of seats.
