Latest teaser of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG EV saloon that will reportedly debut in June this year.

Mercedes-AMG, the three-point star badge’s performance arm, is set to debut a new all-electric performance saloon soon. Ahead of which, the firm has already teased with images of the camouflaged prototype undergoing winter tests prior.

Now, the firm has followed up by posting a new teaser featuring a darkened silhouette of the upcoming new EV saloon. Citing insiders are the Affalterbach-rooted performance division, sources online report that it will debut in June and pack up to 1,000 HP too.

Despite the darkened teaser image, we can still make out the sloping roofline and outline of the rear doors. Apart from that, it remains unclear if this Mercedes-AMG EV saloon will feature a traditional booted or liftback rear quarter.

It's pretty evident that this new Mercedes-AMG EV saloon will feature styling heavily inspired by the Vision AMG concept revealed in 2022.

What’s certain instead that the silhouette indeed confirms that the model’s styling comes heavily inspired by the Vision AMG concept that the firm debuted back in 2022. With four doors, long hood, and sizeable rear section, this will be a big car.

Size and footprint aside, what is critical too is the fact that this still unnamed new Mercedes-AMG EV saloon will underpin the AMG.EA platform, which was developed in-house by Mercedes-AMG themselves.

Said platform will be primed with YASA-supplied axial-flux e-motor(s), which boasts the ability to output as much as 480 HP and 800 NM but weigh just 24 KG each – about half as much as a comparable radial-flux motor.

Theoretically, fitting one of which over each axle could enable all-wheel-drive (AWD) with outputs of up to 1,000 HP and over 1,355 NM. In turn, this could put this up and coming Mercedes-AMG EV saloon in the same league as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi RS e-tron GT.

However, as seen in the marque’s Vision One-Eleven supercar concept, dual e-motors does NOT necessarily translate to an AWD setup, as proven by said concept which packed a dual e-motor, RWD setup instead.

Certainly, it will need all the power it can harness as this upcoming EV saloon is expected to be hefty in weight – perhaps even heavier than the Mercedes-AMG GT63S E-Performance four-door super-PHEV fastback.

Nevertheless, this upcoming electric Mercedes-AMG saloon has been designed from the ground up as a performance car, and it’s expected to place as much emphasis on dynamic performance and engagement as it does straight-line speed.

Expect more details to surface as we get closer to the model’s debut in June.
