4PAM Urges Audit, Fines Over Smart Selangor Bus Route Suspension

The Malaysian Public Transport Association (4PAM) has urged a thorough audit of Smart Selangor after five of its bus lines in Subang Jaya were suspended.
This action followed Smart Selangor's failure to submit permit applications on time and meet licensing requirements. 4PAM president Ajit Johl stated that Smart Selangor's delay indicates a disregard for passenger well-being and safety.

Additionally, he demanded that the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) impose steep fines as a deterrent and remind bus operators of the significance of meeting renewal deadlines under Smart Selangor.
"The very fact of your licence is to do this business, and that (your operator) cannot renew it, leads one to think that we should ask for a full audit of Smart Selangor," he says in a NST report.

Ajit argued that offering free services doesn't excuse regulatory issues. He worried about commuters, especially those from lower-income groups, being stranded.
"Imagine you are a student who is supposed to attend an exam but missed it because you had no public transport to rely on," he says, raising concerns about accountability, questioning who public transport users can hold responsible – the regulator, the operator, or the Selangor state government for a lack of oversight.
