Petronas Kimanis Station Trialling RON97 Supply For Bruneians

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) and Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) have initiated a trial project to introduce RON97 fuel at the Kimanis Petronas Station.
This collaboration addresses concerns about the limited availability of RON97 along Sabah's Southwest Coast, especially voiced by Bruneian land travelers.
KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali explained that the trial phase will utilize a 5,000-litre Mini Portable Container System (PCS) before a broader rollout.
This approach aims to assess the storage system's efficiency and sales performance to satisfy consumer needs while minimizing potential financial losses in case of lower-than-expected sales.
Armizan emphasized that the trial phase is crucial for ensuring an effective, sustainable, and profitable rollout. It facilitates in-depth observation and assessment of key operational aspects, including supply reliability, consumer demand trends, and delivery procedures.
Records from the Customs Department show that between 2023 and 2024, 156,000 cars registered in Brunei entered Malaysia.
The 205km Seri Begawan-Kota Kinabalu route, passing through Sabah's Sipitang, Beaufort, Kimanis, and Papar, and Sarawak's Limbang and Lawas (including Kimanis station), sees limited RON97 availability in Sabah (37 of 260 stations) due to low demand and potential financial losses for many stations, according to Armizan.
“Visitors and tourists from Brunei also face challenges due to the current policy prohibiting foreign vehicles from purchasing RON97.” he added.
KPDN is taking measures to guarantee a sufficient supply of RON97 petrol for both tourists and local residents in the area. Currently, the unsubsidized price of RON97 is RM3.18 per litre.
