Task Force To Probe Fatal FRU Crash In Teluk Intan
In response to a fatal crash in Teluk Intan, Perak, that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) will immediately establish a Special Task Force.
Its Minister Anthony Loke announced that this task force will act as an advisory body to investigate the incident and propose measures to enhance road safety.
“The recommendations will focus on improving safety measures in this case. The task force will consist of experts and independent members who will advise the ministry on the necessary steps forward, in addition to the ongoing police investigation,” he said.
On Tuesday at 8:40 am, a FRU truck returning to Ipoh after Operation Chariot in Teluk Intan collided with a gravel lorry at KM15 on Jalan Sungai Manik–Sungai Lampam.
The accident resulted in nine deaths and serious injuries to two other FRU personnel.
The deceased were identified as Sergeant S. Perumal (44), Sergeant Mohd Roslan Abd Rahim (46), Corporal Mohd Pozli Jaudin (41), Corporal Nurit Pandak (34), Corporal Amiruddin Zabri (38), Corporal Mohamad Hilmi Mohd Azlan (38), Corporal Muhamad Akmal Muhamad (35), Lance Corporal Damarrulan Abdul Latif (33), and Constable Akmal Wafi Annuar (28).
Though the investigation is ongoing, preliminary findings suggest a steering malfunction in the truck as the cause of the incident.
