Launched: 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology – From RM958K

The all-new Mercedes-Benz G-Class EV has been officially launched in Malaysia, with prices starting from RM958,888.
Following its teaser earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has finally launched the all-new Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric. Officially known as the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology, the all-electric G-Class is available in two variants for our market, with the standard G580 EQ priced at RM958,888, while the fancier G580 EQ Edition One is tagged higher at RM999,888.
Included with said prices are the standard 4-year vehicle warranty, plus a 10-year warranty for the EV battery.

Regardless of variants, all Malaysian-spec G-Class EVs are powered by the same quad-motor setup, with each of them featuring its own two-speed transmission to enable low- and high-range gearing like a proper 4x4 SUV. Combined, the whole quad-motor setup is capable of delivering a total system output of 579 hp (432 kW) and a whopping 1,164 Nm, thus making it more potent than the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG G63.
Despite its beefier power output, the G580 EQ is actually slower than the G63 on the straight line, as it finishes a century sprint time at just 4.7 seconds as opposed to the G63’s 4.4-second record. Flat out, the G580 EQ hits the limiter at just 180 km/h, which is also slower than the G63.

But what sets the G580 EQ apart from the G63 is the G-Turn, where the SUV essentially performs a tank turn at up to 720 degrees on the spot. Besides that party trick, the quad-motor setup also allows the G580 EQ to make sharp turns at up to a 90-degree angle, albeit at a speed limit of 25 km/h.
Fancy tricks aside, the G580 EQ is still a proper off-roader, thanks to features like its healthy 250 mm ground clearance, decent approach and departure angles of 32 and 30.7 degrees, and an impressive water-wading depth of 850 mm, which is 150 mm more than the combustion-powered G-Class.

On the battery front, the G580 EQ harnesses a sizable 116-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that grants it up to 473 km of WLTP range. Said battery supports DCFC at up to 200 kW, allowing it to be charged from 10-80% in 32 minutes, while its 11 kW AC charger sees a 10-100% charge to be completed in more than 11 hours.

In terms of design, the G580 EQ retains the same boxy SUV bodystyle as the standard G-Class, albeit featuring some minor EV-specific design bits. Key highlights include the illuminated front grille, round LED headlights, a slightly raised front hood, a tailgate-mounted storage box that fits a charging cable, a roof-mounted spoiler, 20-inch AMG 10-spoke light-alloy wheels, and many more.

Opting for the Edition One version will grant you several additional styling bits, including three special Manufaktur colourways (South Sea Blue Magno, Opalite White Magno, and Classic Grey Solid), Manufaktur door handles, matte black side mirror caps, blue-hued brake callipers, and several blue trims and accents.

On board, the G580 EQ retains the same cabin setup as the standard G-Class, with the exception of the new control panel for the ‘G functions’ between the central A/C vents. Other key equipment primed here includes the MBUX infotainment suite with dedicated rear-passenger displays, black Nappa leather upholstery, several AMG carbon fibre trims, illuminated door sill plates, Manufaktur seat belts, a Microcut microfibre roof liner in black, multi-colour ambient lights, and many more.

Similar to the exterior, the Edition One adds several extra styling bits inside the G580 EQ cabin, including the silver and black Nappa leather upholstery, a leather grab handle, blue topstitching for the steering wheel, blue carbon fibre trims, AMG floor mats with blue stitching, and puddle lamps projecting ‘G-Strong Than Time.’
