Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric ‘Teased’, ROI Now Opened
The all-electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class has arrived... well, sort of.

Fresh from launching its multi-million Ringgit supercars duo last week, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) elected to charge up the 2025 edition of its annual MBM FashionWeek Kuala Lumpur (MBMFWKL 2025) event held in TRX, KL earlier today with another new model ‘teaser’.
Shown, albeit in a striking purple ‘camouflage’ on the MBMFWKL 2025’s runway stage was the upcoming new Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric. MBM touted that this all-electric version of the three-point star’s timeless signature off-roader inspired the theme for MBMFWKL 2025.
Apart from ‘teasing’ the new EV SUV that’s poised to slot above the brand’s EQS SUV range, the firm elected to remain tight-lipped about specifications, price, and launch timeline. Instead, MBM notes that Registration of Interest (ROI) is now opened for keen prospecting buyers.

The upcoming G-Class electric, christened as the G580 with EQ Technology, was 'teased' locally during MBMFWKL 2025 wearing a special 'camouflage' wrap.

First revealed during Auto China 2024, the famed Geländewagen (what the ‘G’ in ‘G-Class’ stands for) in all-electric form is christened as the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology – yes, we know, it’s indeed typically a mouthful of a model designation from the three-point star.
Effectively, this is a production version of the marque’s Concept EQG, which underpins a tweaked version of its combustion (ICE)-powered twin’s ladder-frame chassis. The latter gains a series of reinforcements all-around and swaps its solid rear axle for De Dion rear suspension assembly.

The G580 with EQ Technology was revealed globally during Auto China 2024 last year, though fanfare for it has reportedly been lukewarm at best.

These were done so that the platform can accommodate this EV version’s quad-motor – yes, four e-motors, one for each wheel and each brimmed with its own two-speed transmission – and massive 116 kWh battery pack juicing which.
Said quad-motor setup puts out 587 PS and 1,164 NM. For reference, this EV twin is only slightly less powerful but significantly torqueier than the Mercedes-AMG G63 variant – the latter, boasting a V8 with 585 PS and 850 NM, is the only version of the G-class officially offered by MBM presently.

MBM launched the latest W465-gen G-Class solely in Mercedes-AMG G63 guise last year priced at a whopping RM1,948,888.

Despatching 0-100 KM/H in just 4.7 secs, the G580 with EQ Technology also nearly matches said AMG-built ICE-powered performance twin’s century sprint time of 4.4 secs. However, the former EV version does make do with a lower electronically capped 180 KM/H V-max – not 240 KM/H.
Brisk speed aside, the G580 with EQ Technology also promises to yield decent range from its sizeable battery mentioned – up to 473 KM (WLT). Additionally, the pack accepts up to 200 kW DC fast-charging input, which will allow 10-80% re-charges in 32 minutes.

Besides the special wrap, MBM elected to keep the G-Class Electric teaser unit locked shut today. Nevertheless, expect things to mirror the ICE-powered versions on board.

Our attempts to take a peek inside the new all-electric G-Class teaser unit earlier today were thwarted not only by the wrap, MBM also kept it locked shut. Nevertheless, things on board ought to mirror what we saw in the AMG performance twin mentioned, albeit with sportiness toned-down.
In short, the G580 with EQ Technology is ‘almost’ here, and you can register your interest for it with authorised dealers now. As for price, this electrified G-Class offering should command a much lower and more ‘accessible’ figure versus its Mercedes-AMG twin mentioned.
With this teaser unit's showing at MBMFWKL 2025, Registration of Interest (ROI) for the G580 with EQ Technology is now opened for keen prospecting buyers.

For reference, said AMG-built performance guise was launched last year at a whopping RM1,948,888. Whilst here, we’ll also note that the EQS SUV is priced at RM625,888 in base EQS 450 4Matic SUV guise and at RM1,088,888 in Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV form.
Speculations of sub-RM1 million price tag are rife, but this remains to be seen. We’ll know more as we get closer to the model’s launch, which should happen soon enough.
