PDRM Must Learn from JPJ And Simplify Its Report-Lodging

Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving, road rage, illegal racing, or speeding can report it directly to the authorities through social media.

Federal Police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSTP) Director, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, said motorists can contact them via their official Facebook page.

“This gives road users a simple way to share dashcam videos or photos of traffic offenders with us,” he told the New Straits Times (NST).

While the preferred method is still to lodge a police report in person and submit the evidence, Yusri said social media can serve as a first step. Investigators may still require individuals to come to a station later to record a statement.

However, at Carz.com.my we find this additional requirement is a major hurdle. Many dashcam owners may hesitate to come forward if they have to go through the hassle of visiting a police station and filing an official report.

This could lead to missed opportunities for enforcement and fewer offenders being held accountable.

In contrast, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) offers a much more convenient process through the MyJPJ mobile app.

Users can report traffic offences through the e-Aduan@JPJ feature, where they can upload videos or photos and include details like the date, time, and location. JPJ too promises quick action - offenders may receive a notice within 72 hours.

During the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri operations, JPJ received 6,687 complaints via its MyJPJ app, with the top offences being queue cutting (1,766), misuse of emergency lanes (1,625) and running red lights (843).

The police should consider adopting a simpler and more streamlined process, similar to JPJ’s approach. Reducing the need for physical presence and formal reports could encourage more people to share evidence and support traffic law enforcement.
