Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH Aced Battery Scrape Test in Mexico

Chery continues its safety challenge global tour in Mexico with the battery scrape test for the Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH.

Chery continues its global Chery Safety Challenge tour in Mexico, where the Chinese automaker has put its upcoming Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH through the Battery Scrape test. The upcoming PHEV SUV aced the test, where it struck a 242 mm-high spherical barrier at 30 km/h with 30 mm of overlap depth, with only minor surface scratches visible on the battery casing and no signs of electrolyte leakage, fire, explosion, or smoke.

The battery pack also maintained good structural integrity, showing minimal bottom deformation while all high-voltage connectors remained fully operational.

This test was meant to replicate dangerous high-altitude road scrape scenarios and to test out the battery protection capabilities of the Tiggo 7 PHEV and its Chery Super Hybrid's (CSH) "Guardian Battery" system. The CSH battery features a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery layout that provides a stable chemical foundation while being enhanced with a 780 MPa high-strength steel underbody armor.

Besides structural and chemical astuteness, this battery system also features millisecond-response high-voltage cutoff technology that can disconnect the battery circuit within 10 milliseconds, thus eliminating short-circuit risks. For extra protection, the battery pack also comes with an IP68-rated dustproof certification, ensuring reliable performance under the most challenging road conditions.

As mentioned earlier, this battery scrape test in Mexico is part of Chery Super Hybrid’s global safety challenge tour, where the Latin American nation marked the third stop for this globe-trotting test. Prior to this, the CSH setup was being put through rigorous evaluations in China, including spiral rollover and dual-vehicle collision tests, followed by a 53-hour saltwater immersion trial in Indonesia.

These three previous challenges underscore Chery’s commitment to validate its vehicles under six extreme global conditions—extreme cold, extreme heat, extreme dryness, extreme humidity, high-speed conditions, and rough terrain—which are all in-line with its rapid global hybrid market expansion plan.

The upcoming Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH has already been previewed in Malaysia twice.

Closer to home, the Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH has made its Malaysian appearance twice, first at this year’s Malaysia Autoshow, followed by its second cameo at Chery Malaysia’s CSH launch event.

Along with its bigger sibling, the Tiggo 8 PHEV, the Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH is set to make its debut in Malaysia later this year, where it will be the second CSH model to be launched here, following the debut of the Chery Tiggo Cross HEV earlier this month.
