The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Johor has launched an investigation after a photo went viral showing a Singapore-registered luxury vehicle allegedly refueling with RON95 petrol at a station in Iskandar Puteri.

According to Johor KPDN director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, enforcement officers are actively working to identify the exact location of the incident and whether any laws or regulations were breached. She said the ministry is aware of the incident, which gained traction on social media yesterday, and a full investigation is underway.

The post, which has been widely circulated online, appears to highlight the driver of the vehicle first refueling the car before filling a large plastic container with subsidised RON95 petrol. The image was originally shared by the Facebook page SG Road Vigilante, which also revealed the car’s number plate, “SMA2805Y”.

Lilis Saslinda stressed that the sale of RON95 to foreign-registered vehicles is still strictly prohibited under Malaysian law. The ban has been in effect since August 2010 and is intended to prevent abuse of government fuel subsidies. RON95 is priced at RM2.05 per litre in Malaysia, significantly lower than the retail price in Singapore, which is about RM9.48 per litre.

“If the investigation confirms a violation, firm action will be taken against all involved parties, including the station operator, if found to be negligent or complicit,” she said. She also reminded all petrol station operators to strictly follow the government’s guidelines on the sale of subsidised fuels.

KPDN Johor is also encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities or similar incidents involving the misuse of RON95 petrol, to assist with further enforcement efforts.
