Budi95 Integration Tested: MyKad + Payment Card Makes Refueling Easy

The BUDI MADANI RON95 (Budi95) programme officially kicks off today, extending subsidised RON95 petrol to around 16 million Malaysians. Following a trial run with Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients, this marks a major shift in how subsidies are distributed.

Early users are finding the process straightforward. One of the simplest methods we tried out today was using a credit or debit card payment directly at the pump, avoiding the need for apps, extra steps or queuing at the counter.

The flow is intuitive: drivers first insert their MyKad for verification, which takes only a few seconds. Once cleared, they can choose to purchase fuel either by amount (RM) or by litres for better control. From there, it’s just a quick card tap to begin fueling.

After refueling, the pump prompts whether to print a receipt. We chose to print one for the sake of understanding the process. The receipt was clearly itemised, showing how much of the 300-litre monthly quota at RM1.99/litre had been used and what balance remains.

The same information also appears instantly in the Touch ’n Go eWallet (TnG) app, making it easy to track without paper slips.

In practice, the entire process feels very similar to a normal refueling session, with only about 10 extra seconds added for MyKad verification.

Early Takeaway: Budi95 integration at the pump works as intended, with minimal disruption to the fueling experience. For most, the card method may be the quickest way to enjoy the subsidy, though alternatives such as in-counter cash verification, TnG app purchases, or fuel brand apps like Setel are also available depending on user preference.

Quick note: the MyKad verification process may differ between fuel brands, some stations require payment card authorisation before MyKad verification.
