The Chery QQ3 has been reborn as an all-electric city car, set to go against the popular Geely Geome Xingyuan.

In case you missed it, Chinese automaker Chery is planning to revive its city car marque QQ, with the radical Chery QQ Concept serving as a basis for its future models. Months since the concept was unveiled, we’re finally seeing the first production model from said concept at the ongoing 2025 Chengdu Auto Show, aptly known as the Chery QQ3.

Those who lived long enough would have remembered the original Chery QQ3, which was often touted as the brand’s first city car. Now in its new all-electric form, this compact hatch is set to go against the likes of the Geely Geome Xingyuan and BYD Dolphin in China’s now popular city car segment.

In terms of design, the new QQ3 EV looks very similar to the radical QQ Concept, featuring similar oval LED headlights and taillights seen on said design study. These lighting units are accompanied by a typical five-door hatch bodystyle with a floating roof and thick C-pillars a la smart #1, while riding on semi-enclosed wheels for better aerodynamic performance.

Dimension-wise, CarNewsChina reports that the new QQ3 EV will be over 4,200 mm long and a wheelbase of around 2,700 mm, putting it on par with aforementioned rivals like the Geely Xingyuan, the BYD Dolphin, and many more.

Inside, the new QQ3 EV gets a pretty modern-looking cabin space with tons of comfort and tech amenities. Key highlights include a two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel, a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, a slim digital metre cluster, a floating central console with a 50-watt wireless charger, 256-colour ambient lights, and more.

Featuring a five-seater layout, Chery promises the QQ3 EV to be a pretty practical city hatch. Although no specific measurements for both its cabin and cargo space were given, we can expect it to boast similar practicality to its Geely rival.

Underpinning Chery’s T12 platform, the new QQ3 EV will feature a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor setup, again mirroring the Xingyuan. While no detailed specs were given on either its battery or range performance, we’ve been told that its single-motor setup delivers up to 121 hp (90 kW) of power, which seems appropriate for this size of a car.

Typical of any modern Chinese EV, the QQ3 EV will feature a host of active and passive safety features, with the former coming in the form of Chery’s proprietary Falcon 500 ADAS system that can support high-speed navigation-on-autopilot (NOA).

The all-new Chery QQ3 EV is poised to hit the Chinese domestic market later this year, with pricing details set to be announced soon. That said, there’s no confirmation for now on whether the newly revived Chery QQ brand will hit the overseas market, but we’d reckon the new QQ3 EV would be a great alternative to the Xingyuan’s local-badged twin, the Proton e.MAS 5.
