FedEx Expands EV Fleet in Malaysia with 41 Maxus Vans
FedEx is stepping up its green logistics push in Malaysia with 41 new Maxus e-Deliver 3 electric vans (EV cans). Each can carry up to 920 kg of cargo and travel 228 km on a full charge. Together, they are expected to cut about 305 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions annually by replacing part of FedEx’s diesel fleet.
The new vans will operate across Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Penang and the Klang Valley. To support them, FedEx has installed 41 AC and DC charging stations at key points nationwide.
This is part of FedEx’s broader goal to make all its global pick-up and delivery vehicles electric by 2040. In Malaysia, the expansion aligns with the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint and the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, which position green mobility as a pillar of future growth.
FedEx’s EV journey in Malaysia kicked-off in May 2023 with just two vans in the Klang Valley. By Feb 2024, the company made headlines having executed Malaysia’s first cross-border EV delivery trial, driving a Maxus eDeliver 7 from Shah Alam to Changi Airport in Singapore.
The 406 km trip avoided around 100 kg of CO2 emissions and earned a place in the Malaysian Book of Records.
That trial was more than a one-off. FedEx used it to test route planning, charging and fleet optimisation, laying the groundwork for this larger rollout.
“The cross-border EV delivery gave us confidence in what these vehicles can achieve,” said Tien Long Woon, MD of FedEx Malaysia. “Scaling up in Malaysia is a meaningful step in aligning innovation with environmental responsibility.”
Beyond vehicles, FedEx is also helping customers cut emissions. Its cloud-based Sustainability Insights platform gives businesses data on the carbon footprint of their shipments, enabling more informed logistics decisions.
The logistics sector is under growing pressure to curb emissions. Whether 41 FedEx EV vans will make a dent in Malaysia’s sprawling delivery network is debatable, but as a signal of intent it sets the tone for how the company sees its role in the low-carbon transition.
