JPJ: 2.3 Million Malaysians Have Expired Driving Licences
-full_normal.jpg)
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a reminder to Malaysians holding expired Competent Driving Licences (CDL) to act quickly and renew their licences before facing further consequences.
Under the Road Transport Act 1987, anyone driving a motor vehicle must carry a valid and active licence.
Based on its records, JPJ estimates that over 2.3 million CDL holders are currently in non-active status, meaning their licences have expired and have not been renewed for more than three (3) years.

Driving with an inactive licence is an offence, and JPJ warns that it poses serious risks not only to the driver but also to other road users.
For those whose licences have lapsed for over three years, renewal will not be straightforward. They will be required to retake the Driver’s Education Curriculum Test (KPP02 and KPP03) at any driving institute before their licences can be reinstated.
However, drivers whose licences expired less than three years ago still have the chance to renew them without sitting for the test again. Renewal can be done conveniently through the MyJPJ app, the mySikap portal, kiosks or at JPJ counters nationwide.
JPJ is urging motorists not to delay and to check the validity of their licences as soon as possible.
