A new traffic system will be tested at KL International Airport (KLIA) from September to November in a move to reduce congestion and improve safety at the terminals.

The Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) will kick off at Terminal 1 on 1 September and at Terminal 2 on 15 September. The trial will run until 30 November.

Under the system, vehicles entering the departure (Level 5) and arrival (Level 3) lanes will be given 10 minutes of free access for drop-offs and pick-ups.

No fees will be charged during the trial. Instead, Malaysia Airports will use the period to monitor traffic patterns and driver behaviour before finalising penalty rates for overstaying once the system is fully enforced. 492929587_722930266732573_2277628206879833022_n.jpg
Its Managing Director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the move is in line with global practices.

“Airports worldwide are adopting smarter kerbside management to reduce congestion and improve passenger experience

At KLIA, we want the first and last impressions of Malaysia to reflect our hospitality and efficiency, especially ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he said. KLIA-8580-(1).jpg
The system is expected to smoothen traffic flow, shorten waiting times, and ease peak-hour congestion, while ensuring safer and more efficient access for passengers.

"VAMS is part of its broader effort to transform KLIA into a more passenger-friendly and future-ready airport," he added.
