PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will close the Smart Lane from Kulai to Senai, covering KM26.5 to KM19.3 southbound on the North-South Expressway (NSE), starting Sept 22, 2025.
The closure is part of Phase 1 Package B of the Additional Lane Project between Senai Utara and Kulai, an upgrade designed to boost highway capacity and accommodate increasing traffic along the Johor corridor.

During the construction period, two existing lanes will remain open to maintain continuous traffic flow and minimise disruption for motorists. PLUS has urged highway users to plan their journeys through the PLUS app and to follow traffic signs and on-site instructions from personnel to ensure safety.
At the same time, the highway operator is continuing its efforts to improve user facilities across its network. Since 2023, PLUS has allocated RM37 million to refurbish public restrooms at 56 locations, including Rest and Service Areas (R&R), lay-bys, overhead bridge restaurants and toll plazas.

Many of these facilities now feature enhanced amenities such as family-friendly cubicles, baby changing rooms, shower areas, and improved accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Upgrades are ongoing at several locations including Mambau R&R, Pagoh R&R, Yong Peng Lay-by and the Kulai lay-by, with works scheduled in stages until 2028 under PLUS’ five-year master plan to modernise R&Rs and lay-bys.
