The train has just wrapped up a round of tests at CRRC Batu Gajah in Perak.

RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) CEO Dr Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin said this will be the very first train to be brought into the depot for its next series of on-site tests.

“The first RTS train is still in Singapore undergoing the Offsite Systems Integration Test after its big reveal during the launch ceremony in late June. We expect to bring it over to the Wadi Hana Depot in the second half of November,” he told Harian Metro.

The Wadi Hana Depot will be the heart of operations and maintenance for the RTS Link.

It’s located just a kilometre north of Bukit Chagar Station, the main Malaysian gateway to the four-kilometre rail line linking Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore.

A total of eight train sets will make up the fleet, with trains two through eight currently in the final stages of production in Batu Gajah. They’ll be shipped to Johor Bahru in phases through the end of 2025.

As of August, rail system works have reached nearly 61 per cent completion. Most system tests are already done, and crews are now focused on installation and site testing.

“The challenge now is keeping everything running smoothly on-site, especially since system and infrastructure works are happening side by side,” Ahmad Marzuki added.

The RTS Link is still on track to be completed by December 2026 and is expected to start operations in early 2027, carrying up to 40,000 commuters daily.
