Betamek Bhd is moving deeper into the electric vehicle ecosystem through a new partnership with China’s Jiangsu Yibang New Energy Technology Co Ltd

The company’s wholly owned unit, Betamek Research Sdn Bhd, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Yibang to explore joint efforts in producing and assembling advanced charging communication devices in Malaysia.

Under the collaboration, Betamek will set up facilities in the country to assemble Yibang’s electric vehicle communication converters (EVCC) and supply equipment communication controllers (SECC). These are critical components that allow an EV and a charging station to communicate, ensuring safe and efficient charging.

Yibang will contribute its proprietary hardware, software, firmware and application technologies to the partnership. In return, the Chinese company has agreed to exclusively outsource the manufacturing and assembly of its EVCC and SECC devices to Betamek for markets and customers developed together in Malaysia and across the ASEAN region.

The two companies will also work hand in hand on marketing and business development to secure confirmed orders and speed up the commercial rollout of EV charging communication technologies in the region.

Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani said the partnership marks an important milestone as the company expands beyond its traditional automotive electronics manufacturing business.

He added that combining Yibang’s technologies with Betamek’s local manufacturing expertise positions the company to support the growth of EV adoption in Malaysia and neighbouring countries.

Yibang general manager Ma TianYi said the agreement will allow the company to accelerate the introduction of its EV charging communication systems to the market and meet rising demand for reliable, standard-compliant solutions in the region.

This collaboration reflects Betamek’s strategy to diversify into emerging green technologies while strengthening Malaysia’s role in the fast-growing EV supply chain.
