Renault Filante Record 2025 has charted a new EV efficiency record by covering over 1,000 km on a single full charge.

Remember the Renault Filante Record 2025 that Renault built to shatter EV records? Turns out the French automaker has managed to do exactly that, as the prototype recently charted a new EV efficiency record.

This ultra-aerodynamic, single-seater EV prototype managed to cover a total distance of 1,008 km on a single charge, and it did so in less than ten hours while maintaining an average speed of 102 km/h throughout. What’s more impressive is that the Filante Record 2025 still had 11% of its battery left after the record-breaking run, which Renault claims would have been enough for another 102 km at the same average speed, boosting its potential total range to over 1,100 km.

First shown back in Feb this year, the Filante Record 2025 concept was purposely built with the aim to bring home the EV efficiency record to Renault. Originally, the French national automaker intended to attempt the record in July this year, but additional work was required to make the concept more aerodynamically optimised

The first prototype of the Filante Record 2025 was ready back in Oct 2025, but the weather in France got in the way of its record attempt. Eventually, Renault relocated its record-breaking team to Morocco, with initial tests run on December 18 at the UTAC high-speed proving ground.

Compared to the original concept, the final prototype of the Filante Record 2025 lost some of the concept-ish design elements, with the biggest omission being its futuristic LED headlights, as well as the redesigned fenders and reduced number of air intakes.

That said, the prototype still looks as radical as ever, and Renault designers still managed to retain some design elements drawn from the automaker’s past record-setting prototypes, notably the 1925 400 CV and the 1956 L’Étoile Filante. Some key design highlights include an extended front hood, a unique transparent canopy with an aircraft-style tail, an F1-style single-seat driver’s cockpit layout, and the contrasting ultraviolet blue paint finish seen on the concept.

As for the powertrain and mechanical details, the Filante Record 2025 underpins a special platform made by French racing outfit Ligier, featuring a bespoke carbon fibre tub with an 87-kWh battery pack. For comparison, that’s the same capacity as the battery pack found in the Renault Scenic E-Tech midsize EV crossover.

Beyond its intricate aero parts, Renault engineers have also played around with the prototype to reduce its rolling resistance and weight, with the latter being done by the extensive use of lightweight parts made from carbon fibre, aluminium alloys, and 3D-printed Scalmalloy. Not to forget, the prototype also rolls on bespoke Michelin low-drag tyres, while both its steering and braking systems are being entirely operated by wire.
