RM20 Million Allocated To Ipoh City Council For Road Resurfacing
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) just secured a sizeable RM20 million budget allocation from the federal govt for road resurfacing works.

Good news for residents and motorists in Perak state capital of Ipoh. According to a recent report by local daily The Star, the federal government has approved a budget allocation amounting to RM20 million to the Ipoh City Council (MBI) for road resurfacing.
This is the highest road resurfacing budget allocation to a local authority in the country, touts Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming. With said funding, MBI is set to resurface up to 400 roads including stretches spanning across residential areas.
Key areas in Ipoh set to see its roads resurfaced thanks to this RM20 million funding even include five parliamentary constituencies – Tambun, Gopeng, Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur and Batu Gajah. All five areas are under the maintenance jurisdiction of MBI.

“This initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the living environment for residents,” adds Nga. He further clarified that these resurfacing works will be led by Ipoh City Mayor and MBI.
The latter is tasked with ensuring that contractors are appointed based on competitive cost-benefit analyses, as well as prioritizing quality work.
Besides funding, the road resurfacing works MBI are set to undertake are expected to commence soon and be completed by the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitril holidays – circa late March 2026.
At national scale, it costs the govt some RM4 billion to repair all damaged roads in the country. In lieu of which, the govt has said it will prioritise repairs of critically damaged roads, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi earlier this year.
