Shah Alam Goes Electric: Proton e.MAS 7 Joins MBSA Fleet

The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) became the first local authority in Malaysia to officially adopt the all-electric Proton e.MAS 7 as its fleet vehicle. The council received eight units supplied by Dynamic Care Resources Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Proton.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Director, Mohd Fauzi Aziz Maamor, said the move strengthens the council’s green agenda and supports its vision of building a more sustainable, low-carbon city. He said using EVs will help reduce long-term fuel, engine maintenance and overall operating costs.

To support its new fleet, MBSA is planning to install several EV charging stations at strategic locations across Shah Alam. The chargers are expected to help the council cut operating costs by an estimated 10-30% a year compared to petrol or diesel vehicles, as EVs do not require engine oil, spark plugs or timing belt changes.

The Proton e.MAS 7 will be used for daily operations, including enforcement duties, patrols, project supervision, site visits and official department duties. According to Mohd Fauzi, the introduction of EVs also helps promote low-carbon mobility and boosts public awareness of green technology.

He said the initiative is an important step in positioning Shah Alam as a “Smart and Low-Carbon City,” while providing real-world data to support a future fleet transition to EVs.

Additionally, MBSA aims to cut its carbon intensity by at least one tonne a year and increase the share of green vehicles in its fleet by up to 20% by 2030 in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
