Works Ministry Denies Removing Barriers at Fatal Terengganu Crash Site

Works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi has refuted claims that his ministry removed the safety signs and concrete barriers at the Terengganu road where a couple recently died after their car plunged into a ravine.
"Investigations are underway to find out who shifted the barriers, which were originally placed after a landslide," he said.
The victims, Hassan Shazali, 52, and Suzaimah Che Azis, 34, were travelling along KM52 Jalan Kuala Jeneris-Sungai Gawi-Aring on Dec 5 when their vehicle went off the road.

Police earlier revealed that “certain parties” had removed the barriers installed by JKR, raising concerns about interference with road safety measures.
In a separate matter, Nanta said the ministry will also look into long-standing road damage along the Paya Jaras–Bukit Darah stretch, which residents claim has been unresolved since 2023.

Some locals blame substandard contractors, but Nanta said the ministry will review the issue first, noting that while contractors are appointed properly, some still underperform.
