Bukit Chagar RTS Link Station Roof Completed, Final Facade Works Underway
The Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link has taken another big step forward, with MRT Corp confirming that the main roof structure at Bukit Chagar station is now complete, marking a key transition into the project’s final construction phase.
The roof, made up of large steel facade bands, now provides permanent protection over the station platforms.
With this in place, contractors have been able to remove temporary shelters above the tracks, opening up the site and allowing work on platforms, architectural elements and system installations to move ahead more smoothly.
This development also signals the start of the last phase of facade works, with external cladding and glass installation already under way. Once finished, the station is expected to become a standout landmark for Johor Bahru, both visually and functionally.
“This milestone goes beyond completing a physical structure. It reflects how national infrastructure can promote Malaysian capability, collaboration and excellence,” said MRT Corp chief executive Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim.
He noted that the station’s facade carries special meaning, as its final design, fabrication and installation were entirely handled by Malaysian contractors.
The facade itself was conceived as a gateway into Johor Bahru and a symbol of the close ties between Malaysia and Singapore. Its design was selected through a national architectural competition in 2020, with MRT Corp and an international consultant later confirming its feasibility.
In terms of scale, the structure is substantial. The roof stands about 50 metres high, stretches 200 metres long and spans 50 metres wide, featuring 16 steel bands, along with a rainscreen system, skylights and a spire.
"Fabrication works were carried out across facilities in Bentong, Seremban and Tapah, covering more than 40,000 square metres to meet engineering and quality requirements," he added.

With major structural works now in place, MRT Corp said the focus is firmly on operational readiness, ensuring the RTS Link is completed safely and on schedule.
Once operational, the 4km RTS Link shuttle will connect Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North station in Singapore, and is expected to handle up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction during peak periods, easing cross-border travel significantly.
