GWM brought Malaysia closer to its global operations with the successful hosting of the GWM Malaysia Vendor Development Programme recently which highlighted the company’s commitment to Malaysia through localisation, technology transfer, and strengthening its CKD supply chain.

The programme, organised alongside the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and the Automotive Business Development Council (ABDC), gathered Malaysian government representatives, GWM China leadership, GWM Malaysia management, and supplier stakeholders.

Over the course of the week, delegates toured GWM’s headquarters and key facilities, including the GWM Tech Centre, participating in briefings, site visits, and business matching sessions designed to foster collaboration and practical exchange.

Leading the Malaysian delegation was ABDC Chairman Faizal Mohd Yusof, accompanied by delegates from MARii and ABDC. Representing GWM were MD of GWM Malaysia Mike Cui, COO En. Roslan Abdullah and other senior executives.

Delegates were given a closer look at GWM’s global operations, advanced manufacturing processes, R&D capabilities, and supply chain strategy.

At the Tech Centre, the Malaysian team explored the latest innovations from GWM, including the Hi4 intelligent four-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain, the Hi4T system for off-road applications, and the company’s hydrogen technology developments - demonstrating GWM’s commitment to a multi-pathway approach to sustainable mobility.

The programme was also a chance to deepen Malaysia’s role in GWM’s regional ecosystem.

For the first time, Chinese and Malaysian based suppliers engaged directly through business matching sessions, creating opportunities for technical collaboration and long-term partnerships. These interactions underscored GWM’s ambition to move beyond basic assembly and build meaningful industrial capabilities locally.

Roslan Abdullah highlighted Malaysia’s potential in the regional supply chain. “Through close collaboration with government agencies and suppliers, GWM Malaysia can develop real capability and contribute significantly to the wider automotive ecosystem,” he said.

Faizal Mohd Yusof meanwhile welcomed the initiative, emphasising that Malaysia is ready to support OEMs committed to genuine technology transfer, supplier development, and long-term industrial value creation.

He also noted that such programmes help align national policy with practical industry outcomes, ensuring localisation efforts deliver measurable impact.

Through technology showcases, policy discussions, and supplier engagement, the programme reinforced GWM’s commitment to Malaysia and laid the groundwork for a future-ready CKD supply chain and regional ambitions.
