Malaysia-made GWM Wey G9 Now Exported To Thailand

GWM Malaysia has completed its first CKD export of the GWM Wey G9 to Thailand, marking a new phase in the brand’s manufacturing and supply chain strategy within the ASEAN region.
The shipment follows the start of local assembly (CKD) of the WEY G9 in Malaysia and reflects GWM’s plan to position the country as a regional production and export base for its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) portfolio.
The locally built GWM WEY G9 is produced at EP Manufacturing Bhd’s (EPMB) second plant in Kawasan Perindustrian HICOM Pegoh, Melaka, which supports GWM’s regional CKD operations and export activities.

The move underscores GWM’s confidence in Malaysia’s manufacturing capabilities, particularly in higher-value assembly, technology transfer and scalable export operations, while also supporting local vendor development and workforce upskilling.
The first shipment was witnessed by GWM Malaysia MD Cui Anqi and COO Roslan Abdullah, highlighting the significance of the milestone within the company’s broader ASEAN strategy.

For the Thai market, the Wey G9 will be introduced as a premium New Energy MPV, similar to the Malaysian specification. It features GWM’s Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4) system, a suite of intelligent safety technologies, and a cabin designed for both family and business use.
GWM Malaysia added that localisation efforts for the CKD programme will continue to deepen, with further enhancements to technical capabilities and talent development planned as production volumes increase.
Following the initial CKD export, preparations are ongoing for the official Malaysian launch of the WEY G9. The model is expected to make its local market debut in Q1 2026, with pricing anticipated to come in below RM300,000.
