GWM Wey G9 Launched In Thailand - Malaysia Next?
-full_normal.jpg)
Wey, the premium sub-brand under Great Wall Motor (GWM), has officially launched the Wey G9 Hi4 in Thailand at THB 2.349 million (RM302,000).
Its arrival in a neighbouring right-hand-drive (RHD) market signals that Malaysia is very likely next, potentially before the year ends or sometime in early Jan 2026.

This follows our recent preview of the Wey G9 in Malaysia, confirming that the model is firmly on track for local introduction. With Thailand now receiving the full production RHD version, the model’s ASEAN rollout is clearly gathering pace.
The launch also confirms a regional naming shift. What was previously presented during KLIMS 2024 as the Wey 80 had been officially renamed as the Wey G9 for this region.

In terms of size, the Thai-spec G9 Hi4 mirrors its left-hand-drive (LHD) Chinese twin, the Gaoshan. It measures 5,050 MM in length and 1,900 MM in height, and is slightly wider at 1985 MM.
Inside, it carries the same luxury-focused package shown during the Malaysian preview, featuring a 14.6-inch central display, head-up display, zero-gravity second-row seats, an integrated fridge and a large rear entertainment screen.

Power comes from a plug-in hybrid system pairing a 1.5-litre turbo engine with dual electric motors. The setup delivers 442 hp and 642 Nm of torque, while a 44.28 kWh battery provides up to 170 KM of NEDC-rated electric driving.
For Malaysia, we previously confirmed that CKD assembly of the Wey G9, similar to the GWM Haval H6, will be handled by EPMB. Thailand, meanwhile, already has GWM’s Rayong plant, which assembles the Haval H6 and the all-electric Ora Good Cat.

Taken together, it appears GWM’s strategy for this region is shifting toward a more decentralised approach where each market manages its own production to meet local demand.
If this direction holds, the Wey G9 sold in each market could be locally assembled rather than cross-shipped, although final confirmation has not yet been announced.
