Latest iPhone Vehicle Motion Cues Feature Promises To Reduce Car Sickness
Apple recently announced several updates for its devices, and features to reduce car sickness were amongst which.
Driving a car is now an experience that is combined with technology. To enhance the experience further, tech giants Apple announced new updates and features for the bulk of its devices, - iPhone included. What caught our attention though is something called Vehicle Motion Cues.
Vehicle Motion Cues is a new experience for iPhone and iPad that can help reduce motion sickness for passengers in moving vehicles. Said new feature is one of several that's enabled through the combination of harnessing Apple’s silicon chips, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.
The new Vehicle Motion Cues feature works by using black dots on screen that moves in correlation with the direction the vehicle you're in is moving towards. This, according to Apple, is meant to help combat sensory conflict, which can cause car sickness.
With Vehicle Motion Cues, animated dots on the edges of the screen represent changes in vehicle motion, and it helps reduce sensory conflict without interfering with the main content. The feature can be set to show automatically on iPhone, or be turned on and off via the Control Center panel.
"Research shows that motion sickness is commonly caused by a sensory conflict between what a person sees and what they feel, which can prevent some users from comfortably using iPhone or iPad while riding in a moving vehicle," explained Apple.
Besides Vehicle Motion Cues, iOS 1 is set to see an enhanced CarPlay module featuring Accessibility features added, namely Voice Control, Colour Filters, and Sound Recognition.
That aside, there are also a wave of minor updates packaged together with the upcoming iOS 18, which also sees a slightly enhanced Apple CarPlay module. It now gets Accessibility features added and will now offer Voice Control, Colour Filters, and Sound Recognition.
With Voice Control, aptly, users can navigate CarPlay and control apps with just their voice. Sound Recognition, on the other hand, allows drivers or passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing to turn on alerts to be notified of car horns and sirens.
Color Filters make the CarPlay interface visually easier for colourblind users, with additional visual accessibility features including Bold Text and Large Text. Overall, Apple has made sure that by using their features, car drivers and passengers have a smooth and safe drive. KR
