M’sian Calls Out BMWs Blocking EV Chargers, Slams Mentality
A viral social media post is sparking debate about Malaysian drivers and the country’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs).
On Threads, user @keshydhillon shared photos of two BMWs, a 2 Series and an X5 parked in designated EV charging bays, blocking access for EV owners who actually needed to charge their cars.
“We can have 500,000 EV chargers all around the country, but as long as idiots like this keep insisting on parking in lots meant for charging, EV adoption will always be difficult,” the netizen wrote, prompting hundreds of reactions.

Another user, @tracylaism, called for tougher enforcement: “They should be fined based on the minutes or hours they park their non-EV cars there.”
The incident highlights a wider issue. As of November 31, 2025, Malaysia’s Energy Commission (ST) reported 5,360 licensed public EV chargers, including 3,569 AC chargers and 1,791 DC fast chargers.
While the BMW parking case may seem minor, it underscores a bigger cultural hurdle. Malaysia’s readiness for EV adoption depends not only on infrastructure but also on driver discipline and awareness.

As one social media observer noted, “A country cannot evolve if its people are still stuck in old habits.”
Experts say that for EV adoption to accelerate, stricter enforcement, public education, and behavioural change will need to go hand-in-hand with rapid infrastructure expansion.
Until then, blocked charging bays and frustrated EV owners may remain a common sight.
