Proton Shifted 19,833 Units in Jan 2026 – Highest Monthly Sales in 15 Years

Proton’s Jan 2026 sales record sees the automaker shifting 19,833 units—its highest monthly sales in 15 years.
National automaker Proton kicked off 2026 on a high note, as it announced that a total of 19,833 vehicles were delivered in January 2026, marking the highest monthly sales volume in 15 years. Compared to its monthly sales volume in Dec 2025, last month saw the automaker charting a 35.3% increase in its sales volume and a more impressive 100% year-on-year (YoY) increase over the 9,918 units sold in Jan last year.

Its strong sales performance is mainly driven by the new 2026 Proton Saga MC3, with a total of 10,285 units sold in the last month alone—the highest monthly sales volume ever recorded for the model. Since its debut in Nov 2025, over 19,000 units of the new Saga have been delivered to customers nationwide, and nearly 100,000 orders have been placed thus far, says Proton.

As for their Geely-based products, the Proton X-series SUVs and S-series sedan continued their strong momentum into 2026, with the new X50 charting 2,429 sales volume to mark a big 69.3% increase over the previous month. Meanwhile, the new 2026 X70 achieved 672 units, while the S70 had its best monthly sales record since May 2025 with 1,604 units charted last month.
Last but not least, 252 units of the flagship X90 were sold in Jan 2026, marking a 24.1% increase over the previous month.

Proton Deputy CEO Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa (right)
Commenting on this positive start for 2026, Proton deputy CEO Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa said, “The sales performance of the 2026 Proton Saga proves it has widespread appeal amongst Malaysian car buyers. Few OEMs have a model in continuous production for over 40 years, and even fewer set a new sales record after more than four decades, so this is an achievement Proton and all Malaysians can be proud of.
“With its Brunei launch coming in February, a gradual roll-out to other international markets, and strong domestic demand, there are more highlights coming for the Saga this year.”
