Puspakom Steps Up Expansion and AI-Driven Inspections

Puspakom is ramping up a multi-year effort to expand and modernise its vehicle inspection network nationwide, part of its ongoing #MacamBaharu push to ease congestion and improve the customer experience.
The focus is on adding capacity where it is most needed. That includes opening new branches, relocating and expanding busy sites, adding inspection lanes and making greater use of technology as inspection volumes grow and vehicle standards change.
Last year, Puspakom carried out 4.22 million inspections across 53 branches nationwide. On average, each inspection took about 35 minutes.
Additionally, several new branches are in the works, including in Kajang, Cyberjaya, Bukit Beruntung, Pelabuhan Klang and Pulau Pinang. At the same time, high-traffic locations such as Batu Caves and Kluang are set for expansion, subject to approval from the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

One of the biggest projects is the Kajang branch, which is expected to open in June 2026 and is designed to handle up to 800 vehicles a day. Meanwhile, the Cyberjaya branch is scheduled to follow in May 2027 and will cater to newer vehicle types, including electric vehicles.
The Bukit Beruntung facility, which will replace the Wangsa Maju branch, is targeted to open in June 2027 with capacity for 440 vehicles daily.
Expansion works at the Batu Caves branch are expected to lift daily inspection capacity by more than 45% to 512 vehicles by May 2027. Capacity has also been raised at existing branches, including Alor Setar and Seremban, following upgrades completed last year.

Beyond physical expansion, Puspakom is also placing more emphasis on technology. Inspections are already supported by its Computerised Vehicle Inspection System (CAVIS) V4, with artificial intelligence now being brought in to assist with specific inspection tasks.
An AI-assisted undercarriage inspection system for its Mobile Truck Service, developed with local technology firm Keymag Sdn Bhd, received JPJ approval in Dec 2025 and is scheduled to roll out from Apr 2026. Puspakom however stressed that final pass or fail decisions will still rest with its Vehicle Examiners.
Another system, known as ASTRA, is also under development to strengthen inspection oversight and governance. Jointly developed with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and supported by a Ministry of Higher Education grant, ASTRA is set to begin testing at the Shah Alam branch in Feb 2026, with pilot implementation targeted for completion by Sept 2026.
Overall, the upgrades are meant to shorten waiting times, improve consistency and ensure Puspakom’s inspection network is better prepared for future demand.
