P1P To P9P: These 5 Malaysian Number Plates Cost More Than Most Luxury Supercars

These aren't just numbers, they're the most expensive assets on the road right now. (Photos: Bernama)
The latest "P_P" series, launched in conjunction with the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) 80th anniversary, has officially concluded with a staggering total collection of RM21.6 million.
While thousands of bidders participated, it was the single-digit plates that stole the spotlight, fetching prices that eclipse the cost of many high-end luxury vehicles and supercars currently on the market.
The Million-Ringgit Club
The "P_P" series has officially minted two new million-ringgit plates. These bids represent more than just a registration number; they are viewed as prestigious assets and status symbols:
- P1P: The crown jewel of the series fetched a final bid of RM1,100,000.
- P9P: Following closely behind, this plate was awarded for RM1,000,777.
To put this into perspective, the RM1.1 million paid for P1P is equivalent to the price of a brand-new luxury semi-detached house or a fleet of several premium executive sedans.
The Top 5 Most Expensive Bids
The competition for the single-digit "P_P" plates was intense, with the top five bids alone contributing significantly to the RM21.6 million total.
Why the "P_P" Series?

According to JPJ Director-General Aedy Fadly Ramli, this specific series holds deep historical and symbolic value.
- 80 Years of Development: The series commemorates JPJ's eight decades of service in developing the national transport system.
- Penang Heritage: The "P" prefix is a direct link to Penang, which served as the host location for this year’s milestone celebrations at the Batu Kawan State Stadium.
The Bidding Frenzy by the Numbers
The auction was not just about the elite single-digits. It saw massive participation from the general public, proving that the culture of "nombor cantik" remains a national obsession.
- Total Bidders: 19,370 individuals participated in the five-day bidding window.
- Successful Awards: 5,973 registration numbers were successfully awarded.
- Most Contested Number: Contrary to expectations, it wasn't a single-digit plate that had the most bidders. P1177P took the lead with 26 competing bids, followed by P313P and P22P.
Opportunities for the Public
For those who missed out on the high-profile bidding war, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook confirmed that the remaining 4,026 numbers from the series will be offered to the public.
