SUPER GT 2026 Malaysia Might Not Happen At All? Here’s What We Know So Far

Local automotive and motorsport community has been hit with a bombshell. A report from sportscar365 indicates that the SUPER GT 2026 Malaysia round, originally scheduled for June 20–21, is on the verge of cancellation.
Following a spectacular return to the Petronas Sepang International Circuit (SIC) last year, which saw over 75,000 fans flood the stands, this news comes as a major blow to the "Visit Malaysia 2026" initiative and petrolheads nationwide.
Why is SUPER GT Sepang 2026 Facing Cancellation?

According to the report, several factors are converging to put the brakes on the Malaysian round. While not yet officially confirmed by the GT Association (GTA), the following reasons are reportedly behind the decision, with an official announcement expected as early as this weekend's season opener in Okayama:
1. Government Request and Fuel Concerns
The Malaysian government, a key supporter of the event, has reportedly requested that large-scale events not deemed of "national significance" be curtailed. This move is allegedly linked to growing concerns over potential fuel shortages. This caution stems from the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have already disrupted international motorsport calendars, such as the FIA WEC Qatar 1812km.
2. Skyrocketing Logistics Costs
Logistics have always been the biggest hurdle for fly-away races. It is understood that the inflated costs of transporting freight and personnel from Japan to Malaysia have become a significant financial burden for the teams and organizers, making the trip less viable compared to previous years.
3. A Possible Shift Back to Japan

If the Sepang round is officially called off, the 2026 season may shrink to a seven-round schedule. Reports suggest that the GTA has already begun consulting teams on whether they would prefer a replacement race held on Japanese soil or simply a longer mid-season break.
The Impact on the SUPER GT 2026 Calendar

If the June 20-21 slot is removed, it creates a massive three-month gap in the racing calendar between Round 2 at Fuji Speedway (May) and Round 4 in August. For fans who have already purchased "Early Bird" tickets, which went on sale in March starting from RM80, this news raises urgent questions regarding refunds and the future of the three-year agreement between local promoter HARO Sports & Entertainment and the GTA.
When Will We Get an Official Statement?
With the opening round at Okayama International Circuit happening this weekend, an official announcement from the GTA is expected very soon.

Managing partner of Haro Sports & Entertainment, Fahrizal Hasan.
As of now, local promoter Fahrizal Hasan of HARO Sports & Entertainment has not issued a formal response to the reports.
