Proton eMas 7 PHEV CKD Production Begins: 4 Key Things To Know (Including Massage Seats!)

Just five months after hitting Malaysian roads as a fully imported (CBU) model, the Proton eMas 7 PHEV has officially begun local production (CKD) at Proton’s dedicated NEV plant in Tanjong Malim!

With over 11,000 bookings and 4,500 units already delivered, Malaysia’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV is officially rolling off the local assembly line. But what does this transition to local assembly mean for your wallet, delivery timelines, and feature list?

1. What Changes? Premium Variants Get Built-In Front Massage Seats! 

If you spend hours stuck in Federal Highway traffic every day, this single upgrade is going to make your commute a lot better.

While the base Prime variant remains identical to the CBU model, the Premium and Premium Plus trims now feature front driver and passenger massage seats.

Whether you need shoulder relief after a long day at work or lower-back support during a highway balik-kampung trip, your front seats can now handle it at the push of a button.

2. What About Prices? Here’s What History Tells Us 

Because this is a manufacturing milestone rather than an official consumer relaunch, Proton has not released new CKD pricing tags yet. However, we can look at previous Proton NEV launches to guess what might happen next:

• When the eMas 7 EV went CKD, prices dropped by RM4,000 to RM6,000.
• When the smaller eMas 5 went CKD, pricing remained completely unchanged.

Currently, CBU pricing for the eMas 7 PHEV stands at:

• Prime: RM105,800
• Premium: RM119,800
• Premium Plus: RM125,800

3. Good News If You’re On The Waiting List: Deliveries Are Starting Soon!

If you’ve been waiting patiently for your car to arrive, the wait is almost over. According to Pro-Net, CKD customer deliveries are scheduled to begin within the next two months!

Furthermore, local assembly in Tanjong Malim is actively prioritizing the range-topping Premium Plus variant. With hundreds of buyers waiting months for the top-spec trim, this production priority means reservation queues should start moving significantly faster.

4. 30% Local Parts & Assembled Motors In Tanjong Malim 

Underneath the hood, the powertrain, battery, and performance figures remain identical:

• Combined Output: 262 ps & 262 Nm
• 0–100 km/h: 8.0 seconds (8.2s for Premium Plus)
• Battery Setup: 18.4 kWh LFP battery on Prime & Premium; 29.8 kWh Aegis Short Blade LFP battery on Premium Plus
• Total Combined Range (WLTP): Up to 943 km (Prime & Premium) and 996 km (Premium Plus)

However, the 1.5L engine, motor, and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) are now fully assembled right here in Perak! The vehicle currently achieves a 30% local content rate, marking another major step forward for Malaysia's local New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturing ecosystem.
