Chery Tiggo 8

The Chery TIGGO 8 is a seven-seat family SUV positioned as the more accessible petrol-powered member of Chery Malaysia's TIGGO 8 range.

Introduced in Malaysia on 16 January 2026, it sits below the more powerful TIGGO 8 Pro and electrified TIGGO 8 PHEV, while retaining the large cabin, three-row seating and extensive convenience equipment expected from the nameplate.

The Malaysian TIGGO 8 uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged TGDi four-cylinder engine, producing 194 HP and 290 NM, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive. Official fuel consumption is approximately 7.0 L/100 KM. 

Unlike the TIGGO 8 Pro's joined dual-screen arrangement, the regular TIGGO 8 uses separate displays.

A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster sits directly ahead of the driver, while a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is positioned centrally.

The centre stack also incorporates separate climate-control interfaces, giving the cabin a more conventional layout than the Pro.

The centre-console area provides storage and an armrest compartment with cooling functionality.

Gear selection is handled through an electronic column-mounted stalk, freeing additional space around the console.

A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster displays driving information, vehicle status and ADAS information.

This is separate from the 12.3-inch central infotainment screen. 

The cabin uses faux-leather upholstery.

The driver's seat features six-way electric adjustment with memory, while the front passenger gets four-way electric adjustment.

The second row uses a 60:40 split-folding arrangement, while the third row splits 50:50.

The TIGGO 8 accommodates seven occupants across three rows.

Its 2,710 MM wheelbase and three-row layout make it suitable for larger families, while the second and third rows can be folded when greater luggage capacity is required.

A leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel provides controls for key infotainment and vehicle functions.

It offers four-way adjustment, while selectable Comfort and Sport steering modes alter steering assistance.

Cabin storage includes door compartments, centre-console storage and a cooled front centre armrest compartment.

The folding second- and third-row seats provide substantial flexibility when carrying larger items.

Cup holders are provided through the cabin for front and rear occupants, supporting the TIGGO 8's family-oriented layout.

The current official model page also lists a 15 W wireless smartphone charger. 

Faux-leather upholstery, soft cabin surfaces, seven-colour ambient lighting and metallic-style detailing create an upmarket appearance.

Double-glazed acoustic glass is also fitted to improve cabin refinement.

Official Malaysian figures quote luggage capacity ranging from approximately 117 litres to 1,930 litres, depending on the seating configuration.

The third row folds flat when more cargo room is required, while the second row can also be folded to maximise carrying capacity.

The latest official Malaysian brochure lists 4,722 MM for overall length, so this is the figure I would use rather than the 4,772 MM figure appearing in Chery's original launch press release.

The TIGGO 8 features Chery's familiar large front grille with chrome-patterned detailing, a broad bonnet and sculpted bumper design.

Its front appearance remains similar to the TIGGO 8 Pro, although the regular TIGGO 8 is differentiated elsewhere by simpler exterior detailing.

The rear uses separate LED tail lamps rather than the full-width connected lighting arrangement seen on the TIGGO 8 Pro.

The CHERY lettering is positioned higher on the tailgate, while the lower bumper incorporates one exhaust outlet on each side rather than the Pro's quad-style exhaust treatment.

Automatic LED headlights are standard, accompanied by LED daytime running lights, Follow Me Home functionality and Intelligent High Beam Control.

LED rear tail lamps are fitted together with LED sequential turn indicators and an LED rear fog lamp.

The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and accompanied by puddle lights.

A Sony premium audio system with eight speakers is standard.

The TIGGO 8 uses a 1,598 CC four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline direct-injection engine.

Chery quotes the engine at 145 KW / 197 PS; converted to mechanical horsepower, that is approximately 194 HP, which is the figure we should use for your database.

A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) is standard.

The Malaysian TIGGO 8 is exclusively front-wheel drive.

Chery Malaysia does not publish an official 0-100 KM/H time for this 194 HP Malaysian version.

I would therefore leave the acceleration figure as Not Officially Stated rather than use overseas TIGGO 8 numbers, because markets such as Indonesia use a differently tuned 1.6T engine.

Likewise, official Malaysian top speed is not stated.

There are some third-party listings showing 7.2 L/100 KM, but Chery Malaysia's current model page and launch material state approximately 7.0 L/100 KM, so I would use 7.0 L/100 KM.

Dual-zone automatic climate control and an N95 cabin filter are also standard.

MacPherson front suspension and a multi-link independent rear setup are tuned primarily for family comfort.

The 18-inch wheels and relatively tall 235/55 tyres also provide more sidewall than the larger wheels fitted to the TIGGO 8 Pro, benefiting ride compliance.

At RM129,800, the Chery TIGGO 8 offers a substantial amount of seven-seat SUV for the money.

The 194 HP and 290 NM 1.6-litre turbo engine, seven-speed DCT and independent rear suspension provide respectable mechanical credentials, while powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, Sony audio, hands-free powered tailgate, three-row air vents and 360-degree camera give it a strong equipment list.

Its ADAS package is less comprehensive than the TIGGO 8 Pro and PHEV, particularly due to the absence of Lane Keeping Assist and integrated Level 2 cruise functionality. However, it retains important systems such as AEB, ACC, blind-spot monitoring and rear collision warning.

For buyers who prioritise seven-seat space and equipment over the stronger 2.0T performance of the TIGGO 8 Pro or electrification of the PHEV, the regular TIGGO 8 serves as the value-focused entry point to the range.
