Chery Tiggo 8

A line-up expansion, Chery Malaysia’s latest release (2026), the new Chery Tiggo 8, officially launched in Malaysia.

The D-segment (large three-row SUV) runner underpins Chery’s Modular T1X Platform with an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powertrain.

Locally assembled (CKD – Kedah), available via Chery Malaysia is one (base-range) variant (Tiggo 8 – RM129,800).

Price (OTR, w/o insurance) includes a vehicle warranty (seven years/150,000 km), an engine warranty (seven years/150,000 km), a service package (five years, free: six times labour) and a towing service (free: seven years/150,000 km, 24/7).

Exterior (single-tone) colours (Dark Black, Khaki White). Interior (single-tone) colour (Black).

The new Tiggo 8 has a sloping and tiered dashboard, linked to a high-rising centre console (armrest cooler storage, wireless charger, air-conditioning controls, drive mode dial).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees upholstery (leatherette) with contrast trims (bezels: Aluminium – panels: Gloss Black, Grey Wood veneer) and stitching (White) in one colour scheme (single-tone: Black).

Fitted are the driver/central displays (floating: instrument cluster, infotainment), air-conditioning system (vents: rectangular – controls: armrest screen) and an ambient lighting system (7-colour).

Inclusively, the layout is modern (capacitive touch controls: infotainment, steering wheel) and ergonomic (functional) with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented). 

Installed is a 10.25-inch HD TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) fully digital (Multi-Information Display – MID) driver display (instrument cluster: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 System-on-Chip – SA8155P SoC).

Features are vehicle telematics, Bluetooth, navigation, intelligent voice assistant and customisable interface (drive mode dependent).

Comfortable, the interior sees leatherette upholstery in one colour scheme (single-tone: Black) with contrast stitching (White).

The first row gets electronic-powered (driver-passenger-multi-way-adjust, driver-memory) bolstered seats. 

The second row gets a manual-operated (60:40 split-fold, one-touch-fold-slide-easy-access) bolstered bench (three-seater). The third row gets a manual-operated (50:50 split-fold) bolstered bench (two-seater).

Included are headrests (first row, second row, third row), armrests (first row: centre console – second row: centre seat fold-out – third row: side panels), a cooler storage (first row: centre console armrest) and a panoramic glass sunroof (fixed: sunshade).

A seven-seater (three rows: 2-3-2), the cabin offers generous space, providing comfortable seatings with ample interior mobility for the occupants (first row, second row, third row).

Included is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L – 3.3 kW) charging function for powering of external appliances.

Accessing the boot’s electronic-powered (handsfree: kick-sensor, remote/key fob, interior/tailgate button – anti-pinch, height-adjust, electric-suction-close) tailgate, opens to 193 litres (seats up: third row, second row), 494 litres (seats down: third row) and 1,930 litres (seats down: third row, second row) of load capacities.

Weighing in at 1,590 kg, the new Tiggo 8 stands at 4,722 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,705 mm tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,710 mm.

Commandingly sleek, it exudes a solidly round sculpted exterior, emphasised by angularly chiselled and dynamic proportions.

The front-end sees a formed bonnet (raised sides), rounded quarter panels (flared fenders, wheel arch extensions) and a robust bumper (‘Chery Galaxy Grille’: prism-diamond-stud pattern, illuminated Chery emblem – vents: lower-centre, sides).

Accentuations, body clad (Dark Grey: under guard – Black: wheel arch extensions, side sills) and body trims (Dark Grey: grille surround – Black: vents, B-pillars – Gloss Black: grille insert, side mirror arms – Chrome: grille studs, window surrounds, lower side door strips, Chery emblem – Silver: roof rails).

Commandingly stocky, it continues the solidly round sculpted profile, emphasised by angularly horizontal and sharply lined creases.

The rear-end sees a straight cut roofline (roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna), muscular quarter panels (flared fenders, wheel arch extensions), a tapered tailgate (Chery/Tiggo 8 scripts) and a robust bumper (diffuser: corner parallelogram exhausts).

Accentuations, body clad (Dark Grey: diffuser – Black: wheel arch extensions, side sills) and body trims (Black: bumper, B/C-pillars – body-colour: roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna – Chrome: window surrounds, lower side door strips, Chery/Tiggo 8 scripts – Silver: roof rails).

Seamlessly angular, the headlamps are housed sharply slim and inward tilted. Installed are full LED (projectors) units.

Features are automatic On/Off/low-/high-beam/cornering, Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), Intelligent High-Beam Control Headlamp (IHC), welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED).

Seamlessly sleek, the tail lamps are thick and roundly angular with wide wraparound edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Included are a high-mounted stop light (spoiler integrated) and a set of fog lamps (LED).

The side mirrors (dual-tone: Black-body-colour) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with turn signals (LED), blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection – BSD) and puddle lights.

Fitted are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes. Drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system.

Sportily designed, mounted is a set of 18-inch multi-spoke (dual-tone: Black-Silver) alloy rims, wrapped in 235/55 R18 (front, rear) Cooper Evolution CTT tyres.

The new Tiggo 8 features the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Grouped are Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Intelligent High-Beam Control Headlamp (IHC) and Distance Warning System (DWS).

Features are AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, 5G/WiFi/WiFi hotspot, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), media, live navigation, Intelligent Voice Recognition, customisable interface (drive mode dependent), vehicle telematics (drive, interior), App Store and Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates.

Entertainment is channelled via a Sony Premium Audio System (eight speakers).

The new Tiggo 8 harbours an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powertrain.

Nestled is a 1.6-litre inline four-cylinder 16-valve Turbocharged Gasoline Direct-Injection (T-GDi) with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) DOHC petrol engine (197 PS/145 kW, 290 Nm).

Mated to the setup is a seven-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to the front wheels, via a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system.

Fuel tank capacity is at 57 litres, and the combined fuel consumption (driving: city, highway) is rated at 7.0 l/100 km (NEDC).

A suitable daily driver, the ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time, providing great power with agile handling.

Suspension fitted is a setup of MacPherson strut (front) and multi-link independent (rear). Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The cabin is well-designed, enhancing the in-car ambience.

Overall, the cabin can suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable, even when cruising through bumpy terrains or at high speeds. 

Equipped is acoustic glass (windscreen, windows).

The new Chery Tiggo 8 is built with a solidly commanding appeal, offering appearance, space and practicality.
