Chery Tiggo Cross

Long and highly anticipated, Chery’s latest offering, the all-new Chery Tiggo Cross, officially launched in Malaysia.

Previously known as Tiggo 4/Tiggo 5x (China market), the B-segment (subcompact SUV) contender underpins two powertrain choices (hybrid: HEV – petrol: ICE).

Locally assembled (CKD – Kedah), available via Chery Malaysia are two variants (1.5 Turbo – MYR 88,800, 1.5 Hybrid CSH: ‘Chery Super Hybrid’ – MYR 99,800).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) include a vehicle warranty (seven years/150,000 KM warranty), an HEV system (battery pack, power motor, control unit) warranty (eight years/160,000 KM – 1.5 Hybrid CSH), a service package (six times free labour) and a towing service (free: seven years/150,000 KM, 24/7).

Exterior colours (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH: Phantom Grey, Carbon Crystal Black, Khaki White – 1.5 Turbo: Bloodstone Red – 1.5 Hybrid CSH: Moonlight Silver). Interior colour (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH: Black).

The all-new Tiggo Cross gets a curved and tiered dashboard, linked to a high-rising-wide centre console (air-conditioning controls – wireless charger).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees one single-tone (Black) colour scheme with contrast trims (Gloss Black, Silver).

Equipped is a floating screen display (single-piece: instrument cluster, infotainment), air-conditioning vents (full width – touch-control panel) and an ambient light system.

Inclusively, the layout is simple and straight-forward with accessibilities ergonomically arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

A floating screen unit (single-piece), installed is a 10.25-Inch colour TFT LCD fully digital (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH) driver display (instrument cluster).

Features are vehicle telematics, Bluetooth, navigation and intelligent voice recognition.

Comfortable, the interior sees leatherette (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH) upholstery in a single-tone (Black) colour scheme with contrast stitching (White).

The front gets electric-powered (driver: six-way-adjust, lumbar – 1.5 Hybrid CSH) and manual-operated (passenger: four-way-adjust) bolstered seats. The rear gets a manual-operated (60:40 split-fold) bolstered bench (three-seater).

Included are headrests (front, rear), armrests (front – centre console, rear – centre seat fold-out) and a headliner (fabric).

A five-seater (subcompact SUV), the cabin offers generous space, providing comfortable seatings with ample interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear).

Sufficient head, shoulder and leg rooms.

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH). Single-tone (Black) leather with contrast trims (Gloss Black, Silver). 

Features are multi-switches (Bluetooth, media, intelligent voice recognition, vehicle telematics) and column adjustments (tilt, telescopic).

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Practical storage spaces. E.g., glove box, partitioned/caverned/under-stowage centre console compartments and seat back/side door pockets.

Provided are four cup holders (two – front, rear) and four bottle holders (one – side doors).

Equipped are three USB ports (two – front, one – rear), one 12 V socket (front) and one wireless charger (front).

Accessing its electric-powered (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH) feature (activation – remote/key fob) tailgate, opens to 380-Litres (rear seats up) and 1,025-Litres (rear seats down) of load capacities.

Weighing in at 1,468 KG (1.5 Turbo) and 1,565 KG (1.5 Hybrid CSH), the all-new Tiggo Cross measures at 4,318 MM long, 1,830 MM wide, 1,670 MM tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,610 MM.

Solidly sporty and rugged, it exudes a sharply smooth sculpted exterior, emphasised by roundly angular and cleanly cut contours.

The front-end sees a formed bonnet, raised quarter panels (flared fenders) and a square cut bumper (‘Chery Starburst Grille’: prism-diamond-stud insert – intake: lower-central – Chery emblem: top-centre grille).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: bumper, fenders, side sills) and body trims (Black: grille insert, side mirror arms, intake – Silver: grille surround, side window surrounds, lower doors, roof rails – Chrome: grille Diamond studs, Chery emblem).

Athletically solid, it continues the sharply smooth sculpted exterior, emphasised by horizontal and smoothly shaped creases.

The rear-end sees a mildly dipped roofline (roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna), raised quarter panels (flared fenders), a tapered tailgate (centre bar trim, Chery/Tiggo Cross script) and a covered bumper (diffuser: hidden exhaust).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: diffuser, fenders, side sills) and body trims (Black: tailgate centre bar – Silver: side window surrounds, lower doors, roof rails – Chrome: Chery/Tiggo Cross script – body-colour: roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna).

Seamlessly angular, the headlamps (main: upper bumper, DRL: lower-side bumper) are housed sharply slim. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off/high-beam, Intelligent Headlight Control (IHC), ‘Tiger Fangs’ Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED).

Seamless, the tail lamps are framed slim, blocky and full width (lightbar) with squared wraparound edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights, sequential turn signals (LED) and ‘Tiger Pattern’ light graphics. Included is a high-mounted stop light (spoiler integrated) and a set of fog lamps (LED).

The side mirrors (dual-tone – Black-body-colour) are electric-powered (auto-fold, adjust). 

Features are turn signals (LED) and blind-spot indicators (Blind-Spot Detection System: BSD).

Fitted are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes with coloured callipers (Red – 1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH).

Drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system and a regenerative braking system (CSH Energy Recovery – 1.5 Hybrid CSH).

Variant 1.5 Turbo rides on a set of 18-Inch five-star-spoke (dual-tone – Silver-Dark Grey) alloy rims, wrapped in 215/55 R18 (front, rear) Continental UC6 SUV, GitiComfort F22 tyres.

Variant 1.5 Hybrid CSH sports a set of 17-Inch five-turbine-spoke (dual-tone – Black-Dark Grey) alloy rims, wrapped in 215/60 R17 (front, rear) Sailun ERange Performance tyres.

The all-new Tiggo Cross features the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

A floating screen unit (single-piece), installed is a 10.25-Inch HD touchscreen central display (infotainment).

Features are AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), navigation, intelligent voice recognition and vehicle telematics.

Entertainment is channelled via a standard system (six speakers – 1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH).

The all-new Tiggo Cross comes with variant-specific powertrain setups (hybrid: HEV – petrol: ICE).

First setup (petrol: ICE – 1.5 Turbo) is a 1.5-Litre inline four-cylinder 16-valve turbocharged DOHC petrol engine (145 HP/108 KW, 210 NM).

Second setup (series-parallel hybrid: HEV – Chery Super Hybrid – 1.5 Hybrid CSH) is a 1.5-Litre inline four-cylinder 16-valve naturally-aspirated DOHC hybrid engine (95 HP/71 KW, 120 NM) and two transmission-integrated (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission – DHT) electric motors (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM: 150 KW/201 HP, 310 NM).

Total system output reads at 296 HP (221 KW) and 430 NM.

Mated to the setups is a six-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission – 1.5 Turbo) automatic and a DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission – 1.5 Hybrid CSH) automatic.

Power is transmitted to the front (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH) wheels, via a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system.

0 to 100 KM (drive mode: SPORT) is done in 10.3 seconds (1.5 Turbo) and 8.9 seconds (1.5 Hybrid CSH).

Fuel tank capacity is at 51-Litres (1.5 Turbo, 1.5 Hybrid CSH). Fuel consumption is rated at 6.3 L/100 KM (1.5 Turbo) and 5.4 L/100 KM (1.5 Hybrid CSH).

Powering the e-motors is a Lithium-Ion (Lithium-Ion Phosphate – LFP: 1.8 KWH – 1.5 Hybrid CSH) battery pack (boot-floor-mounted), enabling a driving range of 1,000 KM.

A suitable daily driver, the ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time, providing great power with agile handling.

Suspension fitted is a setup of Macpherson strut (front) and torsion beam (rear). Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The cabin is well-designed, enhancing the in-car ambience.

Overall, the cabin can suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable, even when cruising through bumpy asphalts or at high speeds. 

The all-new Chery Tiggo Cross is built with a robustly sporty appeal, offering appearance, space and practicality.
