GWM WEY G9

Highly anticipated, Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) latest offering (2026), the new GWM Wey G9, launched in Malaysia.

A Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the D-segment (luxury MPV) runner underpins GWM’s New Energy platform (One Platform/Guiyuan Platform).

Locally assembled (CKD – Malacca), available via Great Wall Motor Malaysia (GWM Malaysia) is one variant (Hi4 PHEV – RM269,800).

Price (OTR, w/o insurance) includes a vehicle warranty (six years, unlimited mileage), an EV battery-motor-control unit warranty (eight years/180,000 km) and a maintenance package (free: five years/150,000 km – parts, labour).

Exterior (single-tone) colours (Wisdom Grey, Aurora White, Nebula Black). Interior (single-tone – dual-tone) colours (Black – Brown-Black).

The new Wey G9 has an angularly rounded and tiered dashboard, linked to a wide-high-rising-floating centre console (armrest, storage, wireless charger, cold/warm refrigerator).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees upholstery (leatherette) and contrast panels (Aluminium, Wood veneer) in two (single-tone – dual-tone) colour schemes (Black – Brown-Black).

Equipped are driver/central displays (floating: instrument cluster, infotainment), air-conditioning system (vents: rectangular – controls: buttons), digital rear-view mirror (camera live feed, automatic anti-glare) and an ambient lighting system (64-colour, breathing effect).

Inclusively, the layout is ergonomic (functional) and straight-forward with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented). 

Installed is a 12.3-inch HD TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) fully digital (Multi-Information Display – MID) driver display (instrument cluster) with a Head-Up Display (HUD). 

Features are vehicle telematics, Bluetooth, navigation, voice recognition and customisable interface (drive mode dependent).

Comfortable, the interior sees one seating configuration (seven-seater: 2-2-3) with Nappa leather (first row, second row) and leatherette (third row) upholsteries in two (single-tone) colour schemes (Black, Brown).

The first row gets electronic-powered (driver-passenger-multi-way-adjust, driver-passenger-ventilation, driver-passenger-memory, driver-lumbar, driver-massage, driver-welcome-mode, passenger-BOSS-switch) ergonomic seats.

The second row gets electronic-powered (multi-way-adjust, lumbar, ottoman, ventilation, massage, centre-walkthrough, flexible common rail system) ‘Zero Gravity Seats’ (captain seats – individual seats).

The third row gets a manual-operated (multi-way-adjust, 60:40 split-fold-tip-up) bolstered bench (three-seater).

Mounted is a two-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel. Leather (Black) with contrast trims (Aluminium).

Included is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L – 3.3 kW) charging capability for powering of external devices. 

Accessing the boot’s electronic-powered (handsfree: kick-sensor, remote-key fob, interior/tailgate button – electric-suction-close) tailgate, opens to 233 litres (seats up: first row, second row, third row) and 1,725 litres (seats down: second row, third row) of load capacities.

Weighing in at 2,803 kg, the new Wey G9 stands at 5,050 mm long, 1,985 mm wide, 1,900 mm tall and with a wheelbase spanning 3,085 mm.

Commandingly bold, it parades a largely boxy exterior, emphasised by symmetrically cut and angularly rounded surfaces.

The front-end sees a formed bonnet (raised sides), tapered quarter panels (flared fenders) and an upright bumper (‘Waterfall’ grille: cascading vertical slats, GWM Wey emblem – vents: lower-central, vertical corners).

Accentuations, body trims (Chrome: grill inserts, grille surround, vent surrounds, bumper lip strip, window surrounds, side sill strips, door handles – Black: vents, side mirror arms, B-/C-pillars – body-colour: side mirror caps).

Commandingly wide, it continues the largely boxy profile, emphasised by cleanly cut surfaces and horizontally symmetrical lines.

The rear-end sees a straight cut roofline (roof-edge spoiler), tapered quarter panels (flared fenders), an upright tailgate (middle slim strip, GWM/Wey G9 scripts) and a covered bumper (full width slim insert, hidden exhaust).

Accentuations, body trims (Chrome: tailgate middle strip, bumper insert surround, window surrounds, side sill strips, door handles – Black: bumper insert, C-/D-pillars – body-colour: roof-edge spoiler).

Angularly slim, the headlamps are framed sharp and inward-tilted. Installed are full LED (projectors) units.

Features are automatic On/Off/low-/high-beam/cornering/levelling, Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), Automatic High Beam (AHB), welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED).

Slim and blocky, the ‘Bamboo’ tail lamps are framed full width (lightbar) with vertically blocky wrapped-around sides. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Included is a high-mounted stop light (roof-edge spoiler integrated).

The side mirrors (dual-tone: Black-body-colour) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with turn signals (LED) and blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection: BSD).

Fitted are ventilated (front, rear) disc brakes. 

Drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system and a Brake Energy Recuperation (regenerative braking – Hi4 drive system) system.

Mounted is a set of 18-inch multi-spoke (dual-tone: Black-Silver) alloy rims, wrapped in 245/50 R18 Michelin e-Primacy (front, rear) tyres.

The new Wey G9 features the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The new Wey G9 comes with a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) powertrain (GWM’s Hi4 Performance-Intelligent Hybrid AWD system).

Nestled is a 1.5-litre inline four-cylinder 16-valve Turbocharged Gasoline Direct-Injection (TGD-i) with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) DOHC petrol engine (150 PS/110 kW, 240 Nm) and two (front-rear-mounted) transmission-integrated (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission – DHT) electric motors (Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM – front: 80 kW/109 PS, 170 Nm – rear: 135 kW/184 PS, 232 Nm).

Total system output (325 kW/442 PS, 642 Nm).

Fused (e-motor-integrated) to the setup is a four-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) automatic transmission (column gear selector – right stalk).

Power is transmitted to all four wheels, via an Intelligent Electronically Controlled All-Wheel Drive (iEC-AWD) system.

0 to 100 km/h acceleration is done in 5.7 secs, and top speed is electronically capped at 190 km/h.

Juicing-up the e-motors and completing the hybrid setup is a Ternary Lithium (Nickel Manganese Cobalt – NMC) battery (44.2 kWh).

Charging via AC (Type 2 – 6.6 kW) takes 6.5 hrs for a 15% to 100% State-of-Charge (SoC). Charging via DC (CCS2 – 60 kW) takes 26 mins for a 30% to 80% SoC.

Fuel tank capacity is at 58 litres. The combined fuel consumption (driving: city, highway) is rated (NEDC) at 6.2 l/100 km.

The pure electric driving range (NEDC) is 170 km. The combined (hybrid: petrol-electric) driving range (NEDC) is 1,000 km.

Included is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L – 3.3 kW) charging capability for powering of external devices.
